If that's what you usually do, that's fine. It's your city; we don't care how you build it. If you're concerned about whether it's realistic or not, fire up Google Earth, and go look for RL examples of an industrial area and try and replicate that.

In any case, remember that you can neither break a law nor the game. You can always back up your cities, try stuff out for yourself as you like, and if it works, it works. It's not like your computer will explode and turn everything in a radius of 100 yards into an uninhabitable, radiated crater just because you made a grid one tile wider or narrower. You'll see what works, and if it turns out it doesn't, you can fix it. That's part of the fun in SimCity, and not an unimportant part. If you don't get something to work at all, I can understand that you ask people for recommendations, but if you keep asking for every detail, you'll end up playing other peoples' SimCity to build other peoples' cities that follow other peoples' ideas, and that would be a bit sad considering SimCity is such a great sandbox game where you even set the goals yourself and nobody but you defines what a "good" city is in your books. Don't be afraid, go and try things out! :)

I have actually had that happen, not the crater part, but sometimes, randomly, I will get a radiation bug where i will have a commercial lot generate a small bit of radiation for absolutely no reason.  I have never been able to pin down the cause nor have I ever been able to at recreate it at will, it seems to be completely random.  Damn terrorists.   :sly:

Depends on what I am doing.  If I construct a large seaport installation I usually cover it with an Industrial area of equal or greater width and whatever height I deem necessary.  Inland, I hardly every\ use industrials at all, but if I do, I usually use it for infill.

If I zone in a free-standing area for industrial I usually make them 8 x 8.

My layout is like this:

Grey lines are avenues or highways,

Black lines are roads or streets

Blue Squares are 6x6 blocks of  commercial

Green squares are 6x6 blocks for residency

Orange squares are 6x6 blocks of services, (subway station, hospital, library, elementary school, police and fire fighters)

In my industrial areas all squares are for high density industrial. And I use to change one in every three lines of roads by a rail track

Ugh!  Beautiful downtown Phoenix, Az.

I lived there, but I cannot complain about the characterization, except that it's too much public transport.

Ugly and efficient.

A city designed by the U.S. military.  I've been in Phoenix on and off for work assignments over a period of about five years.  Nice place to visit.

Don't be afraid to try out diagonals, fillers and adding green areas. Industry need not be grid-like!

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage
