A question about education

At the moment I'm working on a region where I need lots of C jobs. As such I am placing down a whole lot of education buildings, basically just carpeting cities with schools, libraries, and museums until my education map is all green and I have high EQ rating. At the moment it works but I'm wondering if there is a good explanation behind how education work in SC4, especially how the different types of education buildings work.

I've noticed that I can just place libraries everywhere and eventually my EQ will get quite good but is that as good for CO demand as having a elementary, highschool, university, library and museum? Does it help to have different types of buildings or is the final EQ score all that matters?

Basically I'm looking for a most detailed explanation of the education system

Thanks for the help!

Different education building types (schools, elementary schools, ect.) have different age ranges they serve.  Best education scores are achieved by covering the whole range of ages present in your city.

I never knew about education and wealth being affected by age pop. Thanks.

What age would the Museums and Library's serve?

And also a tip for EQ. Funding also affects the quality. High funding is High Quality. Low funding is Low quality.

Below are the target ages for each education building:

K-8 Elementary school:  20-50

9-12 High School:           30-60

Private School:               20-60

City College:                   30-80

Small Library:                 20-100

Main City Library:           20-100

City Museum:                 30-100

Major Art Museum:        30-100

University:                      20-100

Opera House:                80-100

As you can see, as your population ages, the elementary school becomes under-utilized.  To keep your population well educated it is good to have the high school, University, libraries and museums.  Please note - do not place the opera house unless you have the 'Opera House Fix' mod.  It will crash your high wealth population without the fix.

All statistics are taken from the Official Pima Guide for SimCity4 Deluxe Edition.

Interesting, very helpful. I'll have to get a hold of that guide. So I guess the EQ by Age and Pop by Age are the far more important graphs than the basic EQ.

As a side note is there a minimum EQ for CO jobs or is it just higher is better?

EDIT: Holy Jesus! Got the guide, so many questions answered! Never realized it went into such detail on the workings of the game engine. Lots of stuff I kinda had the gist of but never any hard data. Thanks a lot for bringing it to my attention.
