Arthur causes alerts in the Carolinas.

It doesn't seem like this hurricane will directly impact land. It appears that it will cause a "rain event" on land.

Rain on the 4th would be the best thing for us here in Arizona. It's been 66 days since we've had any. Sadly, the forecast does not predict much, if any, precipitation for us.

 

Edit: Scratch that. Apparently, it has been over a hundred days since the last rain in the valley.

In Arizona summers when i was there, the rain never fell below the 5,000 foot level.  Any that did just evaporated and increased the humidity to 100%.  How are you doing for flash floods?  Anyone stupid enough to build a house in an arroyo?

Yeah, in the valley we don't usually get any rain until monsoon season, which is arguably the most exciting time of year. Officially, it starts on June 15, but on average, it starts closer to July 7 - close to the Fourth of July. So who knows? We might get lucky with some monsoon storms.

 

Considering the low chance for rain, I don't think we'll be having any flash floods in the valley, but anyone who builds a house in a wash here has a death wish.

Just got a weather alert from Environment Canada.  Seems Arthur, now a Hurricane, is tracked to hit Newfoundland on the weekend, dead centre.

It doesn't appear that it'll get any stronger than a Category 2 hurricane. Correct me if I'm wrong?

So far it is only a Low Invest (AL91) but could become Hurricane Arthur.  Here is the analysis.

There's a 30% chance of rain all day today, and we had a dust storm blow through last evening. That counts for something, right?

Apparently surprise got 1.5 inches from an overnight storm after that dust storm according to ABC15 (Rain Totals). I think their wrong since neighboring cities didn't come close and my rain gauge only said .43. Either way, the weather service might be right about a wetter monsoon season.
