Anyone ok now how to get back to your desktop when your computer shows "Failure configuring windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer". If I can't play sc4 cause of this I'll be highly upset. I've already broke a key board by hitting it and I've smashed the computer pretty good. It may not even work anymore. I have a gateway with windows 8 on it. It was doing fine till all of a sudden it wanted to update windows which I didn't even want. Now it's a hot mess.

Physical damage is more of an on/off thing; as in if you had broken it, it wouldn't even turn on. I don't think it would stop Windows from updating. Which, FYI, is an automatic process by default. The updates fix security loopholes and keep your software prepared for the latest virus threats. You can turn off automatic updates if you delve into Windows security settings, but I would disconnect the computer from the Internet if you do this. Also, I believe Windows will get very upset at you and constantly ask you to turn updates back on.

In the meantime, reverting to a recovered OS should happen without incident; the computer isn't dead. But you should figure out why the update failed. Even if you don't want updates, failure to install one is a sign of a problem.

I've no idea what could have happened, but you should never have allowed any automatic updates.  If you have a set of Windows 7 disks, I suggest you install them.  I hope you have backups for any personal files.

Microsoft has always believed that they they have all the rights to hardware owned by others, and this is a glaring example of this attitude.  The whole site knows what I think of that.  The ultimate solution is to find an operating system that does what you want.
