I do not understand. I have 4 cities in the region, 3 universities (with school of energy and science), probably like 5 elementary schools, and a 2 high schools. Everyone's educated and I am in desperate need of more power, however every time I switch on the nuclear power plant, a warning shows up that says "meltdown imminent".

I have tried to fix the problem, but with no results. Please Help!

One hour later:

So I just went on a walk and logged back on. Forgot to turn off my reactor and it melted down... Bad day for me.  >.<  :boggle:

Can you provide the population details tab.  I want to look at work workforce (workers, unemployed, unoccupied jobs) . Cause with only 30500 population, unless thousands of workers commuting in your city, I could says you have to much unoccupied jobs right away.  Your actual workforce could be skillfull enough to run the nuclear power plant but not large enough.

What macbroue said.

I once test/use the Nuclear Reactor with just only low wealth residential + College (tech level 2) and Grade School without any workers commuting in (without Arcology or second city), successfully, no meltdown. But that's with enough population. I give it another try once I start a new city.

It's been awhile since I plop those reactor.

Are you sure that enough high wealth workers can get to the plant?

What I always do is make sure that the nuclear plant is out of reach of public service as high wealth workers always travel by car.

This may sound strange, but doing this always seemed to work for me.

What i do is set my university next to the nuclear power plant bechuase what happens is university generates "Tech" that goes to the closest buildings etc my nuclear powerplant and if the "Tech" goes to 0 the reactor goes critical and melts hope this helps you a bit btw before using nuclear make sure you got alot of water there want the water

Same here...  Got the game 3 days ago and ran into this problem.  Ended up zapping the city and starting over.  My RCI indicators were all heading South.

I remember reading that you should pick one type of school for a city only. Mixing schools can cause problems with tech level.

Hi,

Here's some basic notions on Education.

Build 1 elementary or 1 high school. Put it near or in the middle of your residential area. Elementary/high school transform Kids into Students.

Kids take Elementary/high school buses to go to school or go by foot. Put school bus stop for thoses far away from school. Not necessary in commercial and industrial area (no kids there). Don't need to put a bus stop in front of the school, buses always return back to school. Students return back home by foot or school buses.

Build 1 college (to produce up to techlevel 2) or 1 university (to produce up to techlevel 3). Put it near your industrial area. If you have a nuclear power plant, plop it just aside it as JoshVN said.

College or university transform Students into Techlevel power. Techlevel is like electrical power going out of your college/university to supply your industries and power plant in knowledgeable workers.

Students don't use the elementary bus system to go to college/university, they use the city bus system, car, foot or trams. Put city bus/tram system in place to pick up students in residential area and bring them to your college/university. Put a bus/tram stop in front of it.

I suggest you install the mod "The Purple Line in Industrial Tech Map". This mod work online and offline. This will show you the techlevel going out of your college/university with purple lines to your industries. You will know which buildings get techlevel power first.

Hope this will help.

Pinky!
