I am looking for a no cd patch for SimCity 2,000 special edition and SimCity 3,000 so I don't have to pull the cd out of the rack everytime I want to play the game.  If there is such a patch available.

Re: what I though was a no cd in drive problem isn't so.  When I run SimCity 2k  (Win 95 version) special edition  (run in Win 95 compatibility mode).  The game runs fine except for when it come to save the game.  If I click on ether save or save as the game crashs out to win7 desktop.  I tryed reinstalling the game already.  Is there a way to fix this?

First of all, discussion of no-cd patches is against the policy of this site.  No help for you there.

Crashes in earlier version of the franchise are a matter of investigation.  If you want to avoid mounting CD media for any of these games you need a virtual CD system such as Alcohol 120%.  Make VCDs of each disk you need, and mount the appropriate one (a command) when needed or leave them all up at the same time if you have lots of drive letters.

To avoid crashes try setting the games to run as XP.

Although SC2000 is considered "abandonware," meaning the original developer doesn't sell this game anymore. I'm not sure if that means you can download it for free, though. I found that you can download it here for $5.99, so that probably means it's illegal to download it for free.

However, I was looking through my downloads folder just now and and noticed that a zip file to install SimCity 2000 had made its way into my downloads folder. I kinda feel like an idiot now for downloading something illegally, and not even realizing that I'd downloaded it. Either way, I have deleted the zip from my computer.

I second what Compdude787 said. If you really want SC2000, just download it from www.gog.com, it'll save you the hassle of legallity issues and it is a reputable/safe website, at least from my impression.

By the way, I have a Win7 box and it runs perfectly on my computer via the DOSBox mod. It will be installed along with SC2000 if you download it from www.gog.com

A good legal way to play without a CD is to burn an image file from your copy of your CD to your computer, and then mount it using a program like Daemon Tools.

Otherwise, downloading a no CD patch/crack is illegal and is not to be discussed on this site, especially links to any. (you may be banned for doing it). So the first method I provided should serve you well.
