So, things have come to Peter's Pretty Pass in Thailand.  The PM was not only at her level incompetence, but got caught.

I wish the Supreme Court of Canada had similar powers.  I'd just love to see the Rt. Hon. Justice McLaughlin fire Steven Harper, but only the Governor General has that power.

Down here in the states, the SC can declare govt actions unconstitutional and the House impeaches officials. The senate tries them.

Well, firing the PM in most Commonwealth countries is a function of the Governor General.

In this case the GG is like a honey bee.  He only gets one sting and then must resign.

With Parliament dissolved and the GG having quit, the Chief Justice is acting GG until a new one is appointed.  This causes a general election as well as a new appointment for GG on the recommendation of the new PM.  The Chief Justice' post as GG pro tem lasts until the new GG is in place.

Those are the rules for Canada.

This happened in Australia recently, but I don't know who the acting head of state was when the GG quit down under.

Looks like she finally ran out of luck. I remember she survived the vote of no confidence though. The real question now is what will happen after her removal?

Well, there is an interim PM.  What clearly should happen is a dissolution of the legislature and an election.

She'll be back, unless a rice scheme conviction bars her from politics for some time. There's currently no alternative.

Well, Thailand is a democracy and as in any other democracy the one with the most votes wins. If not her, who? Suthep, the deputy prime minister indicted for murder during the last round of demonstrations? Or Abhisit, the Eton boy from the Bangkok elite - to rule a country with one city (out of Thailand's more than 65m people, 10m lives in Bangkok. Chiang Mai, the second largest, has 200.000).

The Shinawatras are the first to actually reach out to the rural poor. And as long as one man is one vote, that's the way to win.
