Gambling town inconsistent - train wait times

With the help of some of the good folks here on the forum, I had a budding young city of about 130k and an hourly profit of 6k.  Far better than I'd done in the past.  With a grant from my neighboring rich oil town, I tried my hand at gambling.  The outside rail line entered my city for a short length in one corner, so I built a passenger station and homed the gambling center around there.

Things started well.  I had two gambling houses both making approx 25k profit.  I built a HQ and then the sci-fi casino.  Profits on everything continued a slow rise, so I plopped the sleek casino.  That's when things went south.  The sleek never turned a profit, and started really losing big.  The other casino and gambling houses also saw a sharp drop in profits.

It was around this time that I got a warning from the mass transit transit guy that a lot of outside people were trying to get in, but my mass transit couldn't handle it.  The bus and streetcar wait times were under an hour, but the train was 256 minutes.  Might this be causing my losses in the gambling industry?  I only have the one passenger station there.  Should I build another one next to it?  Editing it doesn't give me any options to improve it.

Haha :) this is one reason I hate using trains.

The problem with plopping another passenger station is that the trains will still only arrive at that first station and then turn back around and leave the city.

My recommendation: Find other means of mass transit :D

The train stations don't work very well, but it isn't necessarily so that the long train-waiting times are the cause for your sleek casino not running profit. Gambling towns depend on a whole lot more then just the train.

The lower casino's (gambling house + sci-fi) run on primarily on low & medium wealth, which travel by mass-transportation, incl. trains, busses and trams.

The higher casino's, for example the sleek casino, also needs high wealth gamblers, which do NOT travel by train or any other form of mass-transportation (besides cruise-ships, airplanes or air-ships)

Also you'll need more then just a casino to attract these medium & high wealth gamblers. Try and place some landmarks with high attraction rate near the sleek casino, and also make sure that traffic around there or the city entrance isn't jammed: especially high-wealth travel primarily by car and if they're stuck in traffic, they're not gambling.

FWIW, I plopped a second passenger station directly next to the first one, and my wait time quickly reduced to 15 minutes.  Makes no sense to me, but...  whatever.

I built a second gambling town with no more luck than the first.  I didn't bother with the sleek casino, as I haven't really had much luck getting high wealth sims to move into any city I've created.  But even with just the gambling houses and sci-fi casino in place, the profits have fluctuated wildly, and I can't see any cause.  One day the gambling houses are pulling in 30k.  A couple days later, they're at 2k.

This, for me, is one of the annoyances of the game.  When things go south, there's usually no indication of why.  And when sims do complain about something, I'm discovering that more often than not, I'm best off ignoring them.
