Weird sound bug

I have a weird problem with my sound, i can get ambiet sound and music to play but there is no sound effects. Its makes playing the game feel realy weird.

Take a look in your program files ... simcity 4\radio\stations\mayor\ and make sure there is a one-byte file called kmay.id in there.  Similarly there needs to be ...\stations\regions\krgn.id.

 

These seem to be a key that allows the music.  All music files must be MP3.

yep both there, like i said i have no issues with music playing its only special effects like when building roads.. etc

Run dxdiag and see if there is something amiss in your sound system.  Just open a console and type dxdiag<return>.  You can run the whole thing or just the sound section.  Checks out all your multimedia if you wish.

fixed by changing sound card option from sorroundsound to stereo

Glad you made that happen.  Do you have enough speakers scattered around the room for surround sound?  I think that takes about six.

no but apparently its alway better to set your audio to surrounnd sound or headphones even when using stereo speaker.

Never heard that one before.  What kind of sound card have you got?
