INTRODUCTION

Hi everyone and welcome to my BAT thread. I invite you here to take a look on my drawing table where a lot of sketches and ideas are waiting to be transported in SC4 universe. Since I am new to this, I expect (and I hope) criticism and advice as long as they both go together. The non-constructive criticisms won't be taken seriously.

GOAL

I am beginning this mostly for fun and in the hope to deliver someday something nice that you guys will enjoy in the game. I know that you will be there to guide me. :D

TOOLS

I'm using 3DS MAX 2013 along to the other needed programs with the lates BAT4MAX that I continue to discover. Advice here will be always appreciated.

MORE INFORMATIONS (Almost done with the talking XD)

English is not my first language and I apologize in advance for the mistakes I could do. I speak mainly French (Québec, Canada), but I will enjoy to read you in both languages.

NOW LET'S GET STARTED

The first project I want to introduce you is a shopping center I am working on at work. I was easy elevating the walls since I already had the plan made on office hours. ;)

(Not my drawing this time)

Next step will be to texture everything.

Tell me what you think !

SPECIAL THANKS

Thanks to Magneto who gave me the little push I needed to start !

    Hi there !

Thanks for all your worlds, it's nice to have some encouragement from BATers like you.

I need a hand with the windows. Well as my building is not constructed (yet  :P ) I don't have the real windows in picture so I could have taken them and worked in photoshop to put them as a texture on my model. So my question here is should I make the windows with other textures or should I make them translucide, modeling each type of windows. If you could guide me there or point me somewhere with information it would be very appreciated ! I'll take any advice !

    Thanks Again !

One good option you'd have for the windows, given that you have a texture of them not high resolution enough for being used as a bitmap on the final product, is to open the image in Max and model around the image. Use it as your guidelines in a similar fashion to how many BATers model the foundation of their buildings from a plan view, and the general contour of the structure from the elevation view.

I took it as though you were asking if you should use a texture image for the windows, or if you should model the windows as a 3D item, instead of just a 2D image. Likewise, I'm not sure what you mean by glazing, are you talking about reflections? If that's the case, it's a pretty simple thing to do, I'd be happy to guide you through the process.

Haha !! I was more talking about the second one (Reflection) or any other setting the glazing of my windows (that i'm going to modelise) need to have for a good look into the game !

I'm a bit strapped for time at the moment, so I can't provide a full response, but check out these two links, they might help:

Hey Great effort thus far! I would recommend creating the windows and door out of 3D objects, in my opinion it looks better. I followed Jasoncw's tutorial on reflective windows and incorporated aspects of reddonquixotes Q1 method. Here are the links, very helpful. If you play around with it you can get it to suit your own style of building. Adjusting colour etc.
