New City Building Game

Looking for some feedback on a new city building game. In the beginning stages of developing a game using basic ideas from different games such as Sim City, Civilization, Railroad Tycoon, Oregon Trail and others. A game that would give players an opportunity in a sandbox mode to take your city from a settlement to a futuristic metropolis using technology, resources and business deals to make it happen. Each city would have characteristics of the particular industries they were founded upon and/or choose to pursue. Technologies would be period specific and only be used once it's been discovered (a la Sim City 2000). Your city could pioneer new technologies and share them with the world and/or utilize technologies that have been discovered by others (for a fee of course). All zoning would remain the same idea as Sim City but a "City Council" could decide on who and what is built in your city (you would maintain veto powers however). You would start on a "Regional" map that would need to be explored and once you've settled your city, you would be able to annex adjacent spaces the expand your city. Rewards and opportunities would be presented based on tech advances, cultural advances and population advances. These are just some basic ideas. Please feel free to make suggestions, pitch ideas and discuss. Would this be something you would purchase? Thanks!

To be honest, that would truly be a game of awesome, epic proportions. I'd buy it any day!

Honestly, after what happened with EA, I dream of starting a company and just make a city game like that (and listen to the community) with every feature along with expansion packs for what I couldn't add. (and yes, big, BIG maps!). You know what they say,  "if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself..."

Are you making a game? If you do, I hope it has modern non-cartoonish graphics (cryengine 3.0 anyone? (: (: (:)

Quite a concept. I suppose you'll need a starting period of time and an ending period of time. With progressive technologies for each era. Maybe Empire Earth would be a good reference for that. You'll need big maps. Large enough to fit airports, harbors and big trade facilities and even space ports. Agriculture space and other natural resources that you can depend on.

I agree with the "starting point." Maybe late 1600's or something? However, we could continue with "future technologies" once we've reached the end of the tech tree, much like what Civ 5 does. That way there wouldn't necessarily have to be an "end point." Also, you're right, big maps are a must. It could, however, be subdivided like Sim City 4 and still allow for exploration and annexation. Imagine a Sim City 4 Region map covered in a fog of war.

Erm, this is not a forum game, so it's suited for the City Building Games section. Mods, please move it.
