Hello, I'm new to this forum, so I hope I don't do it wrong. I haven't found a thread on this subject, so I thought I might start one.

I'm looking forward to see some screenshots of older parts of your towns. This is one of my attempts in creating a German Fachwerk-style medieval city center, surrounded by city wall parts and a moat. After taking the screenshot, I realized that I forgot to include a church (which at least seems important to me), and I'm still trying to find a good spot where to place one (and a suitable model for a church, anyway).

The parts around the market place are mostly ploppable commercial buildings, whereas the rest of the old town are growable residentials. It took me about 50 game years to grow it...

I hope you like it. Comments and constructive critique are always welcome.

What a great idea. I've been wanting to create a historical district in my cities for a long time but I never got to that part.

I like your centre, but I think the el-rail is a bit out of place. Lots of european cities tries to preserve the historical centre of their cities and I don't think such a rail line would ever get approved. I might be wrong though. I would probably go for busses instead (or go subway if you need it to handle traffic) within the city and perhaps move the station out to somewhere outside the city wall.

If you have NAM installed I would suggest you used SAM streets like i.e. herringbone brick or cobblestone to give a more medieval feel to the city :)

Quite true; most cities use trams or underground rail. However there are some notable sections, with Berlin having the Stadtbahn cut directly through the middle on a viaduct, as well as Hamburg having their U-Bahn rapid transit system on some elevated sections through.

Great city 11241036. I like how the railroad cross the old city. It's really unique in my opinion.

Oh, and welcome to Simtropolis :)

    I like the Old towns.

This is Liaudginai, a walled city I made 2 and half years ago.

Wow! This is really more than genius! May I ask where you got

    * the City Walls

    * the trees from your 4th screenshots

from? (The names of these plugins would be enough for me, I can search them on my own.) I'd be interested in those city walls, especially because of the diagonal pieces.

The trees are timed props from BSC Mega Props CP vol2

The city walls are from toutsimcities.com but now I don't remember the autor. Search for "medieval"

You can also try xannepan's City Walls,a great set recently released on the LEX. ;)

And my contribution hope you like it :P

Wow, this is really masterwork! Great choice of buildings, and I think that the wide sandstone sidewalk is also a good idea. To me, this is reminiscent of my own hometown, a part of it looks a little similar. I can feel the old flair while walking along the lakeshore.

Another contribution of mine. This time a little more difficult to make because of the slopes. This is the old part of a small town with about 4,000 inhabitants. Hope you like it.

This is another old town from me, this time an attempt to combine various German buildings by Haarlemmergold with the Gründerzeit houses by Paeng from his Old Town Center set. I really like the buildings by Haarlemmergold; however, I must admit that this combination of buildings on this screenshot looks messy. If anyone has suggestions how to solve this problem, you're welcome to post them.

And here are two close-ups: One of the center, viewed from the right, with the market place and the cathedral...

... and one of the park where the river flowing from the top splits.

    Time for a bump.

This is another take on the timberframe houses. This time the setting is in a 180° curve of a river. Click to enlarge.

Here's a Nordic (Swedish?) themed Old Town that mostly grew in one of my cities.
