Hong Kong

The wellknown British colony...

I've started this region a couple of weeks ago and progress has been made.

Good luck with this. Your terrain looks good - and Hong Kong has always looked like a fantastic city to me. Can't wait to see more!

Wow!![:0] You really are going to create Hong Kong! Can't believe it! Hong Kong has the most skysrapers in the world. More than 3300 buildings >70m! New York only somewhere in the 1000. Well good luck, ejc!
And btw, I thought you were going to recreate holland?

Great! Another Dutch journal. Looks to me like a HUGE project, but I'm really curious about what those cities down there look like. Btw, the HongKong map is probably one of the most beautiful and challenging regions you can think of. I wish you Good luck with it!44.gif

Wow! This is very impressive... I live in Hong Kong and this is the most accurate Hong Kong CJ I've ever seen! Chek Lap Kok Int'l Airport looks just the way it should and the shape of all the land masses are just about perfect. 44.gif

Actually I'm working on my own Hong Kong region right now, but that region concentrates on the main urban areas around Victoria Harbour... so at least we won't be competing. 9.gif

It's interesting to see how you've developed the new towns first. Don't forget to add the new West Rail line, which runs from Tuen Mun (through Tin Shui Wai, Yuen Long and Tsuen Wan) all the way to West Kowloon.

I found it funny how you pointed out that Hong Kong was a British Colony... because Hong Kong was handed back to China over seven years ago, in July 1997. 3.gif

But anyhow, I wish you the best of luck... you're going to need it if you stay true to Hong Kong's road system!

    Hi there!!

    Thanks 4 the encouragements..
Yes; I'm still working on my version of Holland. Problem is that it is really frustrating that there isn't a real Euro-set in SC4(people from Europe will know what I mean2.gif)

This region is far more challeging with a lot of different landscapes and cities

    /idealbb/files/hk_regiontransport.JPG

here is the transportation map so far.. as you can see I have used a monorail-system for the connection between the new airport outside Hong Kong and the city centre(Kowloon&HK Island)

And as you can see the railline between Kowloon & the west point is already in place39.gif

I will post close-ups later.. I play the game in 800x600 and I will take pictures when it's in 1024x768.

cya'll next time and greetz from Holland44.gif

    Here are some promised close-ups..

    /idealbb/files/hk_new_airport.jpg

the new airport of Hong Kong is several kilometres away from the city. It is constructed on a man-made island for the coast of Lantau Island. The airport is connected with the city with a highspeed railline and a new build highway with a new tunnel underneath Victoria Harbour and the large suspended Tsing Ma bridge.

    /idealbb/files/hk_newtown1.jpg

this shot is taken in a newtown north of Kowloon. Because of the Kowloon<->Tuen Mun railconnection which runs right through the town-centre this newtown boomed out to a medium sized town in a small mather of time.

    /idealbb/files/hk_newtown_industry.jpg

This is the industry sector of Tuen Mun. With the seaport it's important 4 the import of products into Hong Kong. It's a polluted area overhere because the town lays right next to a large mountain range so the toxic clouds stay all the time.

    /idealbb/files/hk_newtown_sham_teng.jpg

this is the newtown of Sham Tseng. With a high need for houses the area is filled with highrise appartment buildings. This area is often shot on the background of the Tsing Ma bridge.

http://www.structurae.net/en/photos/index.cfm?JS=17136  (Tsing Ma Bridge with Sham Tseng in background)

    http://www.centamap.com/cent/index.htm

with this site I can see where highways/railways en elevated railways are.. very handy to recreate the Hong Kong Area, because it's HUGE2.gif

I hope you guys(and girls?) like the update?

    Yes, simcity4crazyguy said it perfectly - word's can't descirbe Hong Kong18.gif

I can't wait untill you get to Hong Kong Island (I don't know the proper name..).   It's one of the places in the world I envy.  I know HK has a lot of angeled streets, so I would say use roads for more realism (streets inhibit growth too!) One last thing, if you don't want dirty industry, raise their taxes to 20%. This will get them all to go. BUT since you already started, it might not be as effective ane may cause job losses, so try it and DONT SAVE (just incase)

    Good Job! Have Bunnies:  35.gif 35.gif 35.gif 40.gif

Those screenshots look great, ejc! I especially like how you did the Int'l Airport; the ground level carparks look just like the ones in real life! 19.gif

You're right, mattc005, the island's proper name is Hong Kong Island. Reading your post (especially the part in italics) made me smile because I live on the island! 3.gif

Correct me if im wrong, but isnt the west rail elevated from Tuen Mun to Kam Sherng Road and turns into a subway for Tsuen Wan West and onwards to Nam Cheong? I'd like to see how your going to do the light rail in the west as well. BTW nice city 44.gif

    OMG it looks great

Are you planning to build the island and Kowloon? How do you build the cross-harbour tunnels? Bridges over Victoria Harbour kills the view.

And if you are really constructing Kowloon Peninsula, I'd really like the railway lines to be the pre-1975 one...coz I really like the old KCR terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui 1.gif

    Please, keep it up!

    And greetings fellow Hong Kongers.

Nice update! Looks good, but I have a suggestion: those shores look a bit strange, I think you could enhance realism by plopping trees or building quays, but, of course, if this is what HongKong looks like I haven't said a word (don't know the city)
    Anyway: keep up!!44.gif

OMG! I can't believe that someone is gonna build Hong Kong!

I've got the region but I just could't make it as Hong Kong is too much for me. No matter wt, I am looking forward to seeing my home - Hong Kong to grow here.

So u've built the west of Hong Kong, I live in ShaTin, and this is very challenging that the whole town of ShaTin stands 45 degrees against the region(i.e things r not facing due East/South/West/North). I think it would be a veryveryvery hard job for u.

But I think u will find a way to make it, keep up the gd work!19.gif

    Greeting from Hong Kong~

    Hi there!!

It has been a while since last update..
I've been working on the section north of Kowloon. Behind the mountain ridge lays Mo on Shan and further north the City of Tai Po.

    These sections have almost completed..

    /idealbb/files/hk_shin_ma2.jpg

heavy railtraffic on the Kowloon <-> China Railway in Sha Tin

    /idealbb/files/hk_shin_ma.jpg
Sha Tin is a real commuter city.. with elevated rail and highway connection to Kowloon it's commuter heaven2.gif

    /idealbb/files/hk_taipo_old_centre1.jpg
further north on the Kowloon <-> China railway is the city of Tai Po. Here is the old towncentre with lowrise and (typical chinese) market..

    /idealbb/files/hk_taipo_new_centre.jpg
north of the water inlet is the new train station located.. Because of the opputunity to travel faster the economy rose and commercial boomed out in this part of the city.

That's all for now you guys..

just wanted to show you a sneakpeak of Tsim Sha Tsui11.gif

    /idealbb/files/hk_tsim_sha_tsui1.jpg

notice the KCR Terminal off the Kowloon <-> China Railway and the entrance off the tunnel beneath Victoria Harbour...

Hong Kong Island with business district is not far away now2.gif

Stay tuned & greetz from Holland

    hey!

I'm currently building up hong kong island... but it is very difficult; lots of abandonement and traffic time rises because of the congested tunnels underneath victoria harbour11.gif

Trying to get it done but I have a hard time on this part of town.. damn34.gif

Hope to get to you'll soon

That's odd because two of the three tunnels underneath the harbour aren't usually congested... and traffic is quite light in the Western Harbour Crossing because the tolls are at least double that of the other two tunnels!

Here's a tip: if you haven't done so already, use a combination of elevated highways and avenues along the north shore of the Island... that should help to reduce commute times and abandonment. 1.gif

By the way, how is the mass transit system going? Is it congested as well?

    Hi!

It has been a while since an update so I wanted to show you the progress that has been made.. I have reduced commute time on HongKong Island building new subwaylines.

Still there is a lot to be done but I think it already looks like the real HongKong with the highrises on the Southside31.gif

    /idealbb/files/Hk_aerial1.jpg

On the right side of the aerial you can see the space isn't filled up; that's were I've ended2.gif

In the north, between the industry, you can see the busiest highway interchange in the HongKong region... The elevated highway to the new airport outside HongKong meets the old Expressway.

The most important landmarks have already been placed. See the Bank of China and behind it the Convention Center which overlooks Victoria Harbour.

Still; the skyline is going to be adjusted if everything is completed... I want that same aerial as on photographs11.gif

Woah, that's beautiful! It's got the right feel too, especially in the way the city meets the forested mountains. All that green behind it, wow! You've done a great job here, there's just one little problem - the Bank of China should be turned the other way round so that it faces the harbour. 2.gif

EJC you've done a superb job!44.gif This is very realistic and it looks almost(it's impossible to duplicate exactly) exactly like Hong Kong. All the highways and avenues are in the right place. You must have an atlas of Hong Kong in front of you when you built that didn't you?19.gif A few notes and questions:

    1. How did you build the airport?42.gif

    2. There should be less dirty industry in the region, most Industrial Districts in HK are manufacturing or high tech.

    3. Did you know that they've recently extended the Kowloon-China railroad(KCRC) to Tsim Sha Tsui? Here's the link. It's underground.1.gif It is set to open this Sunday!9.gif
