Plopping signage and flags, etc.

When you open up a building like the police station or a coal mine, you have the option of putting down a sign or a little flagpole.  I usually don't bother.

However, out of curiosity, do these so any good?  Do residents in the game actually find it easier to find, say, the clinic or the community college if there is a sign?  Does a flagpole increase land value?  Do trucks sometimes get lost if you don't have a sign on your coal mine?

Good question, thought it was rather pointless the signs and flagpoles cause usually u cant see the flag poles and rarely is their more than one spot to put the sign...sign should just come already installed :P

Yep, and the signs and flagpoles are too tiny to see from where you usually have the camera positioned anyway.  It just seems a little weird to give you that functionality for something which is purely aesthetic.

I think the signs give benefits (If you read all the descriptions) but I don't think the flagpoles do.

Been a year since I asked this, and I still haven't found any tangible benefit.  It's just a weird thing to allow.  For instance, why does the streetcar depot get a sign (no one gets on there) but the bus depot doesn't?  It doesn't make sense.

I've never noticed it before.  I usually place them, but sometimes I forget, but things still roll along just fine.  It's not like I have ran short on oil for my power plant because I didn't have a sign, or my depot ran out of goods because there was no sign.  The only times I've ever had with no deliveries if from bad traffic slowing things down.

Maybe one of the modder know?  They can probably see what affect it has on the game.

Perhaps if the game developed well, we might be able to customize the looks of these buildings as if we're playing with Legos given that they'll provide more ploppable signs and flags for every building. But alas we're only limited to the one that came with the basegame and perhaps some with the EP.

I to answer your question, I looked into the scrips file. It doesn't add anything to the game. Such as flagpole, only serve as a decoration of the building.

    Same goes to signs.

Thank you.  There have been a few signs I went out of my way to plop - like the sign for the small police station, which implies in the text that it helps deter crime ("Criminals are a superstitious lot").  After all, casino and stadium signage attracts more sims, according to the flavor text.
