FLUP Underpasses

I'm trying to build a FLUP, and I've placed the tunnel piece entrances, but I'm not sure exactly how to proceed from there.

I've checked the NAM manuals - along with everything else- but I'm finding nothing to show what step is next.  I mean, is there another puzzle piece I put down?  Or is it simpler than that?

This is my first time really starting to have fun with the RHW and the new road and traffic options, so everything is very, very new to me.

You need to connect the entrances together with puzzle pieces.  TAB through the FLUPs to find all the "network-under-whatever" pieces.  They can go under blank terrain, roads, streets, rails, RHW...a whole lot of things.  You can't have zones on top of them however.

You might want to try a regular tunnel instead.  You can zone on top of those.  Just a little bit of terraforming required.  The NAM digger pieces (found in the Roads menu) come in handy.

I'm glad I haven't done it yet.  I'll try out the tunnel version first.  If that doesn't work fore me, well, I'll just zone some more.  I'm doing an avenue that passes through major districts and generally loops around the city.

At the moment it's like a figure eight.

What do you suggest is a good general layout for roads, highways etc?

For road layouts you are generally stuck with the grid and diagonals to the grid.  There are some nice fractional curve pieces in the NAM however.  Practice in your sandbox with these is recommended.

FLUPs are a godsend.  I use a lot of rail, and an overpass is not usually as good as an underpass.  Do be careful with planning for FLUPs because they need some clearance in order to be placed.  Try and leave some five grids along the affected path on both sides for placement.  You can build up both sides afterwards.  One of the things I encountered recently was that it takes two filler pieces to get a FLUP under a diagonal rail with a straight street running under it.  This whole package is well worth exploring.
