Thanks again, everyone! 35.gif It didn't seem like that much work to me since I did most of it last year as part of the now defunct yearbook project. 21.gif

Should I repost the list on every page or should I just leave it on page 1? 42.gif

I think updating the first post is the best. That way it will be clear where the latest list is at any time.

You're doing a great job, mayormommy, but it seems that the link in your sig is wrong... can you change it to this:

    https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=70113&pageNo=1&num=30

Dynasty made it on, eh? Too bad it's ended...

Ugh, thanks Shadow_Assassin. 21.gif To think after cutting and pasting so many links that I missed the most important one! My goal is get all the 2005 CJs done this week, so in the course of looking at them all I can get my Trixie nominations done. If I do two months a day and skip sleeping it should work! 23.gif

Eek, sorry for the double post, but the 2005 CJ descriptions have been posted. I will add CJs occasionally as needed but the next full update won't be until Christmas break. 2.gif

Wow, what an impressive list, I can just imagine the time that you have invested to harvesting the information, let alone making the comments of EACH listed City Journal.

This is now one hell of a list! Its like a virual library of everyones stunning CJ work! Those little reviews are great and are a fantastic insight! This is so helpful as its already let me find many old CJs I've been looking for so I thankyou for the work you've put in to this.

Thanks, everyone! 43.gif I have a question for you - I have these CJs arranged chronologically because that was how the yearbook was going to be organized. But I was thinking that it might be more useful if I categorized the CJs by topic instead. For example:

    Real City Re-creations

    Story Driven CJs
    - General
    - Alternative History
    - Science Fiction

    Traditional CJs
    - European
    - Tropical
    - North American/general modern
    - Rural
    - Desert

    Other Special Themes or Misc.

What do you think and, if you like the idea, are these categories okay? 42.gif

That's a good idea. How about this:

    [date][CJ Name][Categories][Description]
    example:
5/21/05 - :: dynasty :: (European, Science Fiction) Dynasty seems like a conventional CJ

Thanks, S_A. 38.gif Actually, I was intending to sort the list by category first, then by date - which means that each CJ will only be listed in one category (it's only fair). I was thinking that I could make first stab at sorting them, and authors who didn't agree with their assigned category could request to be moved. BTW, I wouldn't start this until Christmas, so there's plenty of time to get input on these categories. I don't need to get feedback from authors on which category they want until the final categories are settled though, since they might be changed. 2.gif

A note about European... we have a lot of very different styles (UK, French, German, Italian, Spanish), do you want to go into subcategorizing as well?

Interesting point. Let's see if we have enough to subcategorize. If so, maybe we could have British, Northern European, and Mediterranean. 41.gif

EDIT: Okay, I come up with 11 CJs on this list so far that would fall into the European traditional CJ category that probably would not be categorized elsewhere instead (city recreations, story-driven, etc.). Is that enough to sub-categorize? 42.gif

mayormommy - Thank you for an incredible list.  I have already discovered some CJ's that I might not otherwise have checked out.  I applaude your hard work and thank you for it.

if 11 ONLY for European, no need to subcategorize... really, already the work that you have done is largely enough!!!

Okay, thanks, we'll leave it as one big category for the time being. The only other thing I've thought of is to add a multi-player region category at some point. As I said, I won't start on this until Christmas, so anyone who has any more thoughts or suggestions on categories has plenty of time to think about it and let me know. 2.gif

I'm happy with the Date way of sorting. But if you do sort it then make sure you seperate the 2004 CJs from the 2005 CJs, just to get some clarity. The list is very detailed! 19.gif

BTW, Yes! Green Depra has just hit 10 pages, so maybe you could include it in your great list? 48.gif

Wow, you've been busy! 31.gif Last time I peeked, you still had 40 replies to go. I'll add it shortly. Yes, the CJs will be in chron order in their respective categories, so there will still be some sense of history/progression.

I don't think I said it earlier, but good job mayormommy.44.gif  Not counting the STEX, the City Journals are by far the most populated spot on SimTropolis.  They are in essence the game of SimCity itself.   Your guide is very useful.  It's almost like reading a tourist brochure of places to visit.

A little feedback and request: in addition to providing a link to each journal can you also italicize the authors also; it'll help in scanning who's done what.

Thanks again for all of your work!10.gif

Thanks, Joe - that's a great idea about italicizing the authors' names! I'll think I'll have to wait till I'm on my other computer though - on this computer I would have to do it all in manual html. 33.gif

I'm looking forward to re-sorting this list over Christmas break, so if anyone else has any ideas or input, please let me know! Just as a reminder, the categories I have so far are:

    Real City Re-creations

    Story Driven CJs
    - General
    - Alternative History or Historical Fiction
    - Science Fiction

    Traditional CJs
    - European
    - Tropical
    - North American/general modern
    - Rural
    - Desert

    Other Special Themes or Misc.
    - Multi-player regions
    - Tutorial

Something I was thinking of that might be helpful to some people is listing CJs by author, alphabetically. For example, say I read a CJ by MrCinatit and I want to see some of his other work. I'd much rather just look up MrCinatit (of course in the Ms) and find all his CJs there than search the whole chronological listing, especially if his CJs are spread out over a long period of time. Just a whim of mine...

Joe - I've italicized all the authors' names but I don't think they stick out enough. Maybe I should make them bold instead? 42.gif

RHF - Sorting by author is a good idea, but I'd like to just maintain one list. Perhaps when I update over Christmas, I might add See also... on those entries where the author has more than one CJ. 1.gif

Hmmm, now the CJ titles look a little weak - I'd better bold those too. 3.gif
