What mods cause city buses to became red yellow green blue color? (picture soon)

With no picture, that is hard to know. Either you've added aditional vehicles, or you have a mod that changes the appearance of the default bus or schoolbus.

Instead of having all mods in the plug-in folder, it's better to have the different mods in separate sub-folders, so you can track them down later

Quick test to see if it is a mod is to rename your plugin folder to plugin.hold and start the game.  The game makes a new plugin folder you can delete later when you restore the old one.  If the problem persists without any plugins, you need to look deeper, maybe at your GPU.

It seems that you have a mod that add a new bus or replace the default one, but this mod require hardware rendering in the graphics options. If you have software rendering, switch it to hardware. But you need to restart the game.

Yeah, it seems like you are running software mode while the automata requires hardware mode. So please set to hardware mod or remove the automata from your plugins folder if hardware mode is incompatible.

Was there a warning on the download page that these skins are HD?  Rather a non-starter for people like me who must run software mode.

Yes, I run in software mode, but running in hardware mode will disappear in the city when scrolling (though when I stop scrolling they reappear, but sometimes I need to zoom in and zoom out in order to reappear). I will remove the bus automata first and replace with something compatible with SW mode.

You can force a redraw of the screen by pressing the 'g' key twice.
