Same textures, different texture.

I was attempting to create a blank park to match a set of fence lots by RebaLynnTS.  I use them frequently.  The place I use them the most though is around schools, I like to fence my schools in especially my elementary schools, to keep the perverts out.  I have been putting up with the fact that there are no grass lots in the game or anywhere else for that matter that match it and have been having two different colored textures, one for the fence lots and one for the open fields contained within them.

I had enough of it.

I decided to go out on a limb and finally create some of my own content.  I followed the tutorial on the omnibus for creating simple lots, followed it to the letter.  It was a great success.  Now all I had to do was to match the base textures of the fence lots and I was done.

At first I had a hard time matching them, I was trying to just eyeball it and that was an epic fail on my part.  Then I got this bright idea, I created a blank plugins folder and put the fence lots in it and then I put my custom content park in it and I put the dependencies for the fence in it.  THEN I opened the lot editor and I located the fence lots and I hovered over the base texture and go it's ID "0x252b3000" I then opened my lot and placed this same texture on my lot, I saved it and quit.  I copied my custom content back into my original plugins folder and restarted the game.  I got in and even though they shared the same texture IDs I got two different texture colors.

What gives?  Where did I mess up?  The two textures appeared to match in the lot editor but in game they were completely different, I mean two totally different shades of green, mine was all dark like the normal maxis plain park and the fence lots were still a faded green/yellow/brown(take your pick LOL)  I double checked and made sure there were no extra lot files created still lingering in my plugins folder so I was not getting false results, the textures just didn't match even though they were the same ID.

What went wrong?  I feel so stupid.  If any of you can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.

Unfortunately, no.  I did check that last night before I posted, perhaps I should have included that information in my original post.

The only things that are on this lot is the invisible building, the fence prop and the base texture.  For all intents and purposes these lots are ordinary in every way, except that the color of the base texture changes in game.  Even if you visit the page here on the STEX(search for "RebLynnTS" as the creator) you can see that the texture is a pissed out(no offense intended) yellow/green/brown color.  If you look up the ID "0x252b3000", you will clearly see that it is not this pissed out yellow/green/brown texture, it is a nice park colored green.

I really need to know what is going on here, I plan on doing much more of these kinds of alterations in the future, knowing will keep me from having to come crying every time I run into it, I suspect this will happen again.

Is that one of the maxis wealth dependent textures? That may be the reason for the varying textures.

I am not sure.  I placed them in game singly and alone on a fresh large city tile by themselves for testing purposes.  If they were wealth dependent, that would mean something would have wealth attached to to it, but when I made these lots I made them and set the wealth to "none"("none" was actually the default), in fact I made them as neutral as is possible by reducing all the effects to 0, 0 park effects and 0 landmark effects, these are supposed to be eye candy.  So even if they were wealth dependent would that not make them all the same anyway?(just assuming)

Further, I took the lots I wanted to match and attempted to change the texture to another texture on those, a texture I could match using the lot editor.  I saved them then deleted the .dat files that included the originals, and tested those, much to my surprise and also major frustration, the base textures did not even change, I changed the IDs in lot editor but in game they remained that same drab texture, I used a more green texture so that I would definitely see a change and they did not change.

I think I am going to give up on this endeavor and instead make my own lots entirely, an entire set of lots including the blank lots for open fields.  I will lose the transit enabled lots but I guess I didn't use them much if ever anyway.  I just want to be able to have completely fenced in plain ol' fields.

By the way, after you mentioned wealthification, I placed a road in my test city and placed an RLM fence piece next to it and changed the sidewalk texture to something other than the low wealth,to what I am guessing was medium wealth, my lot would change the sidewalk texture to low wealth, the texture of my lot, the blank field lot, would not change, and it is the same texture I have been using for all of this.  This is just frustrating, jeez, I am just going to make my own and pray it works out, if not, I may just be done with making my own CC.  :rage:

    Thanks anyway guys.
