Okay first of all sorry if a post like this is marked as spam but just wanted to say something :)

Its really annoying how the busses are driving, sometimes they just seem to ride circles on the same road for an 'in-game-hour', is this normal? I think it would be great if we had the option to point out the route for busses instead of let them drive like they dont even own a drivers license..

And i had a great idea they should do in a future update, its sooo annoying that buildings are catching fire while there are like 40 firetrucks, but they seem to be stuck in traffic. Thats so unrealistic. In real-life cars will get out of the way if they hear sirens so they will reach their destination fast. Sims in my city should do that too.

What do you think?

Traffic and services are still a mess after a bunch of patches. It might be decent by 2015.

I gave up on fire trucks and just use the helicopters on the larger fire station.

Traffic is not so much of an issue when they are flying over it!

Edit: never mind my edit you already covered it!!!

Civilian cars in Simcity do move aside to give way to emergency vehicles. It's just that when there are traffic jams in your city the cars can't move to the side and other cars are way too far ahead to notice the fire engine/police car etc., so the emergency vehicle ends up stuck in traffic.

A fix for this is to add low density service roads along the sides of the main roads in your city and place emergency services on these roads. You only need to connect these roads to one end of the main road This way the emergency vehicle gets to the main intersection in seconds and no other traffic will bother going there because it doesn't lead to anywhere other than your police station/fire station.

Hope this helps :)

I like how firetrucks can get stuck in traffic. I've seen plenty of emergency vehicles stuck in traffic in real life as well and it adds an extra dimension about where to place the buildings in connection to the road system. Maybe even inspiring creative solutions like roads that are not usefull for normal commuters but become essential to fire trucks and such. You have to make choices like building a big station on a central location or spreading out smaller ones.

Busses though, I have no idea what they are doing. Does anybody know how they work? Once they fill up with workers going to work what do they do with them? I'm still afraid to use them because I feel like my sims are just being taken for a ride.

Buses are an absolute nightmare. They all get in a big single-file conga line and just drive U-turns following each other all day. I feel like they will never be truly useful unless we can plot out actual routes and assign the buses to them, they clearly cannot be left to their own AI.

The new patch allows you to bridge over roads, so I tend to adopt a strategy of building "expressways" through my city to move traffic between neighborhoods faster. These expressways avoid at grade intersections with other major streets so that traffic can move at maximum speed to its destination. That combined with the improved AI really eliminates the most egregious traffic issues (though you will still have to deal with roads that are pushed far beyond their limits in a big city).

I will never forget going to Manhattan in 1994 to see my sister.  I got off at Penn station and walked up Avenue of the Americas (6th Avenue) to the Americas Tower where she worked.  As I go onto Avenue of the Americas at 33rd street, there was one of those little firetrucks like a pickup truck with the boxes in the back, with its lights and siren on, trying to get north through Manhattan Traffic.  I beat that fire truck to 45th street, on foot.

LOL. I may never complain about the fire trucks again.

Definition of success; like getting the juice from an orange, just suck and suck until you suck seed.

This is beyond annoying. I tried deleting my bus depot to see if I could "reset" my bus system but I still had over 50 driving around my city single file. I've also noticed that sims will gather at bus stops and then disperse without even getting on a bus. I see the same thing happen with school bus stops. Not only that, but when you click on some stops it will show a ridiculously high number of people using the stop. And depending where you look "wait times" are always displayed different.
