Something Interesting With Power

I recently figured out something interesting with power.

I built a city with a massive amount of square blocks.  Each block is the size of one high density building. I surrounded the blocks with avenues.  Lots of crossroads and cul-de-sacs.

OK, so the city did fine until I added in a couple of processor factories on the other end of the city from my power plant.  That's when I noticed that even though I had a massive amount of excess power, my processor plants were not getting power once in a while.

It seems that the more crossroads and cul-de-sacs you have the less chance your power will get from one side of the city to the other in time to keep large consumers happy.

I had to kill the city as it would not run correctly.

The invention of beer and the wheel were the foundation of modern civilization & together were the catalyst that split humanity into two distinct subgroups: liberals & conservatives. Some men spent their days tracking & killing animals to B-B-Q at night while they were drinking beer. These men were called "conservatives". Other men who were weaker & less skilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly B-B-Q's & doing the sewing, fetching & hair dressing. They were called "progressives".

Power runs in random paths at intersections. The less intersections you have the more likely it is that you get power where you need it.

Power, like in real world cities, roams through your city streets at night, stalking, lurking, and sometimes might get lost if you have a such a confuse layout... watch out for traffic as power can be stuck after a bus or a giant bubble sewage agent...

Oh, and btw, trashing cities is one of the challenges Maxis designed for you so you can enjoy the game a little longer and if you ever get too attached they might release a new patch that requires starting up again...

:ducky:
