I prefer local over brand any day of the week. Philly has America's largest farmers market, known as Reading Termianal Market. Bieler's Donuts are the best donuts on the face of the earth. They're Amish, so they don't work on Sunday, which is unfortunate, because I like to take the train in for some post-church lunch. Anyway, my father told me when he worked at Center Square in the 80's, RTM was a favorite of his. There was one place there that had a really good sandwhich, and was fairly crowded. You know, one person at the register and two making the food. Then some magazine comes and says "This is the best sandwhich in the United States." Now it's a tourist attraction with four people at the register and 20 making the food. That's what publicity can do to a little business.

Speaking about clothing stores, Jack and Jones for the win. Just recently, a huge american-mall-styled shopping center opened in a city near where I live. It more like a shopping mile with many clothing stores, restaurants and has been built for its special purpose. Renovations will be soon including more shops being built.
