my specs are :

amd phenom II 8 cores cpu ( 3.20 each )

670 GTX overclocked 1280 mb

16 gb ram ddr 3 , 777 freq .

1200 w power supply .

and still , when filling the city with structures and buildings , fps goes down to around 25  + - ..

this is really annoying , considering me , as an fps perfectionist .

any ideas?

is it a tourist city?

normally i run near max settings and its very smooth, even for a max-size city.

but i recently made a city that is pushing past 150k tourists, and it has made that city unplayable. probably only 3-4fps. and if i open the tourism layer its less than 1fps showing huge armies of medium wealth people storming my city

seems like the game cant handle massive numbers of tourists too well.

    seems that's the case.

i thought... finally! tourism is a viable option. i was making 50k+ hourly profit.... but alas, back to huge smog tech or metal cities.

i havent tried high wealth only tho. need to save up 10+ mil to rebuild i think.

It makes me wonder if the tourist numbers are 'fudged' or not like the main population number. I remember reading somewhere that the simulation could support ~100,000 agents. Maybe things scale poorly as more tourist agents come into the city than glassbox can handle (regardless of your computer)?

I suppose maybe focusing on high wealth tourists and keeping away low wealth ones might be a temporary fix.

I know the cities population of agents are fudged, and only a few thousand are simulated.

But I don't know about the tourists. When I view the tourist map the streets near my casinos are swamped with so many tourists that its a blur. There could be +100k actual simulated tourist agents in my city.

I had assumed that it was slow because the sims were simulated on just a single cpu core (a bad design / etc), but my system doesn't report any high cpu or gpu usages. Must be some bottleneck somewhere in glassbox.

I have several cities 150K+ population and only saw slowdown once on my side (due to other programs running in the background) and this is with a system a few years old.

    Intel Core2 E6600 (dual core @ 2.4GHz)

    4GB DDR2-800

    1GB nvidia GTX550Ti

    SSD

    Win7 64bit

I have cities with plenty of specialization, I have tourist cities and gambling cities and educational cities with lots of schooling.... haven't found any specific one causes any slowdowns here.
