Is SimCity4.exe changed from 1.1.638 to 1.1.640? I have bought every SimCity on PC since I first discovered the game on the SNES (I will not however be buying the newest one).  SimCity 4 is easily the best of them all, and I still play it frequently. I long ago copied the install disks content to my archive HD, and have been installing from there everytime I re-install Windows. The CD's are long gone and I have been using a play disk ISO to load the game. This is however a waste of space, and occupies one of my virtual drives all the time, as removing it after a play session would put me in the same situation as having to insert a physical disk. Is it so much to ask that I be able to simply click on the desktop icon and play? Especially with a ten year old game? I think not, but the only no-cd available is for 1.1.638 and I'm not sure if it will include the BAT compatibility fixes included in 1.1.640

Given that everytime the topic of not having a play disk is brrought up, not one person suggests anything ofther than buying the game again, I have a guess as to what kind of response I will get, but I'm asking anyways. Telling people to re-buy a game they already own, just so they can play it BTW is the height of corporate nuthugging and shameful for any self respecting person to recommend.

Not if one owns the game, the burden of proof for which does not fall on the community, but on the publisher to prove in the negative in the case they pursued legal action. That's what it means to be innocent until proven guilty.

1.1.638 and 1.1640 are the same. One is for SimCity, or AKA SimCity Vanilla. and the other is for SimCity Rush Hour (1.1640)

No, not true. The 1.1.638 is the SKU update for SC4 Deluxe/Rush Hour, 1.1.640 is the night lights update.

hmmm.. well i guess i will just continue to waste 700 mb on my HD and a virtual drive. i absolutely will not re-pay for a product i already own, i'd rather take the time and learn how to crack Safedisk 2.9, but i'd really rather waste 700mb and a virtual drive to either of those :P. God I hate EA. even ten years out they wont loosen their grip. there are plenty of ways to prevent piracy besides requiring a CD, just ask Stardock. Given the fact that they obviously revisited the game to make it available on Steam, GG and Amazon, they could have easily implemented something else.

It's only going to get worse.  The next generation of gaming consoles (XBox 720, Playstation 4) are rumored to not take CDs; you will only be able to buy games online.  That also means no more buying used games for reduced prices.

Ohh, you're right bub, I went back and looked to see where I went wrong. Just confused myself with the different SKU but that's only for regional... Sorry bout spouting wrong information, I really try not to do that. But thanks for the correction.

And PS4?? Why buy one?, they designed the PS3 to be a 10 year console. Maybe if they would finish using the potential of their current platform, I'd be interested, but since the sole reason they are creating a new PS is to compete with the boneheads that think an Xbox will somehow be superior to even an earlier generation PS, when it simply won't. But gotta have the new best thing, gotta have an Xbox and a PS. I'm tired of the console exclusive games and the back and forth. I've studied every system that comes out and the PlayStation is always the ultimate. But it doesn't matter how much better one is, if a game is poorly designed, The problems, between gameplay, buggy software needing constant updates, always online play, piss poor host management and the fool that came up with lag compensation should be shot! : P The console war is a joke when the software designers rip us off at every turn...

Why don't we just quit buying consoles and new games for a bit, maybe they'll quit jerking us around. They sure as heck won't if we keep throwing money at them for poorly rendered services...
