Maybe it's just me, but I think your mix of trees looks fine in that screenshot.  It's what you typically see in a lot of places around the eastern and midwestern U.S.

I'm not sure any of us can really tell you what kind of trees to put in that open area, because this is a very personal game.  It's different for everyone.  Whatever you like is all that matters, so just go through your trees menu and experiment to see what looks best to you.

BTW...I really like the way that neighborhood looks.  It seems very healthy.  I'd enjoy seeing more screenshots of your entire city if you care to post any.

You might be interested in those tree controllers:

AERDEN by vortext

by blunder

Both are seasonal, so you might need the seasonal flora patch (depending of your terrain mod)

I didn't try the latter, but the AERDEN controller is absolutely terrific. It gives a great variety of trees just by making simple brushes. Perfect for those like me who are either too lazy or don't like to spend countless hours planting flora but still enjoy gorgeous nature landscapes :)

It really depends on what you imagine as the climate for your city.  I would probably used mixed deciduous trees.  There are enough of them around that no trouble laying them down.  You might consider using some of PEGs scrub brush on those rocky areas.

I honestly wouldn't worry about installing any other tree mods.  From what I see, it all looks really good.  You have a few stragglers here and there that look out of place, but nothing that would warrant installing a tree controller.  Your neighborhoods all look so nice...I'm actually a bit jealous.  I wish mine would turn out like that.  A few questions, if you don't mind me asking:

    - Do you plop any of your buildings, or has that all grown on its own?

    - Do you use the Industrial Revolution Mod?

    - Where did you get the cell tower I see between the wavy sound barrier walls and the highway?

    - You have a lot of streets in your residential neighborhood.  Do you have any traffic problems?  No matter how much I try, all of my residential neighborhoods with streets consistently get flooded with traffic, no matter how the streets are layed out.

    - In your final screenshot, where did you get that building in the top left right (oops)....the one that looks like a residential tower shaped like half a wagon wheel?

All of those trees look good to me. I don't see any reason to change what you're already doing. If most of your trees are the result of existing lots, you might just want to go into Lot Editor and see what kind of trees are in those lots, and just plop those in your undeveloped areas.

The city has a nice suburban look to it. The trees look fine to me, though I'm not a big tree person. I plant them in god mode but that's all. I've never even planted any in mayor mode myself. However I have never cared for the palm trees that come with the houses of worship. And that half wagon wheel building does look pretty cool!

I see that in the top right ;)

LOL!  Yeah, yeah, I see that.    I'm usually good with directions, so I'm not sure what was going through my head when I wrote that.

Anyway, thanks for the link.  :D

Just some advice on posting images.  Don't post any more PNG images.  They are too slow to load.  Convert them to JPG format instead.

Well, suffice it to say I'm impressed with what you've done.  :thumb:  It all looks so natural.  I really wish my city looked that nice.  Do you mind if I ask how large your lots are when you lay out your zones?

Yes, please post a link to that highway light when you get a chance.

It looks okay, but if you insist on changing it, randomly plopping trees may serve to advantage you.  Or your could download aforementioned mods.

BTW, there is not one game-default building in that screenshot, if I look at it correctly.

The first one, that is.  Your cities look great, as well

Are you using MMPs (Mayor Mode Ploppables), or the God-mode trees?

Very nice city, and I see you got a very good hand with the trees, too.

Do you mind telling where the 4 identical looking industry buildings on the left of your last industry image are from? I don't think I've seen those.

I was just curious.  If you use the God-mode, and select a smaller radius, you might end up with a bit more diversity.  But it looks good.

Thank you! Funny that I missed these, as I use the creator's sunflower fields.

There's no better way to hide something than to release it on the ST/Exchange :D.
