[INTERACTIVE REVIEW] Simcity 2013

Hi guys,

I am unsure on cross-promotion of forums rules... hopefully this doesn't breach any rules?

I'd post the whole thing here, but seriously, each entry is taking me hours so I'd much rather just provide a link.

I have bought Simcity 2013 and have 7 days to trial it obligation free before I decide whether to return it or keep it.

I'm writing an impartial review on CSGforums, which you can read here.

The aim is to journal my experience over this week to see what I think.  Most of my time is spent actually posting the review, lol... but the whole purpose is to give people considering the good and bad reviews a much more in-depth look at the game before committing to buying it.

Let me know what you think?

Some previews:

I'll be adding entries to this "journal" all week, so feel free to have a squizz and lemme know what you think.

Cheerz!

Hola,

I took a look at the link, and thought I'd throw in.

You say "If you lose connectivity while playing this game, it closes down on you. It's built that way."

This is not strictly true: my connection does a lot of dropping out, but for short periods of time, and the game recognizes this but does not kick me. It will recover and let me know. I'm not sure how long it will allow you to continue without a connection however.

I'm reminded of being at Uni' and being told that 'higher resolution does not necessarily mean higher accuracy". This is why some analogue watches are more accurate than digital ones.

I think you should turn your work into some kind of wiki. I think it's just too long for a linear body.

Thanks for your input guys.  The people you refer to are not going to get much value from what I'm doing... that's true.  I'm not aiming at people that have mastered the game or have been playing it for a month... I'm aiming it at people that would like more information about it.

It's taken me this long to buy the game because of the negative hype, and if it applies to me it applies to others as well.

I'm presenting this as a nuetral in depth observation of my experience with it, because it's hard to tell from normal game reviews and such.

So far there are positives and negatives, but it's nowhere near the disaster that I've heard it was... in fact it's got a lot going for it.

Thanks Haljackey... I was unsure where to put it - happy to put it where-ever really.  Figured it wasn't really a city journal as such...

I've always been here, just lurking.  Got a lot going on both in my personal life and my online life.  Working like crazy.  I'm Group Operations Manager of the entire state now, didja know?  I need a holiday.  :\

A wiki is a good idea, but I'm already up to my eyeballs in other projects - I just wanted to post some screenshots as I went to give an insight into Simcity 2013 for anyone that's considering buying it.

    Excellent!

I will certainly drop in and have a look.

Also, my commendations to the mod or admin that removed the top two inflammatory posts.  Nice to see that sort of behaviour is no longer encouraged here.  :)  Manners don't cost a thing.

I have now finished the review.

It has resulted in me taking this game back and getting a full refund.

The latest update scrubbed my cities.  Not. Cool.

    Dear EA:

If you want to retain control of my data, then you have a duty of care to keep it safe and accessible.

    Stop wasting my time.

    That's an excellent idea!

Anyone that is a member of the EA forums has my consent to re-post this review or any part of it (providing they don't take me out of context, and providing a link to the original review is provided in the post).

I couldn't be bothered signing up to an EA forum just to tell them how pissed I am with them.  They can spend some of their billions doing some googling to find out what the community is saying where they feel at home.
