Sewage and Region problems...

So I'm new to this version of simcity.  I was happily building my city on the 3 tile region to do some learning.  Now my city has only got to about 16k pop and I've already got serious trouble.  Firstly Sewage.  I got a message that is was backing up so I dropped another outlet pipe.  Now the new one gets used and the old one does not!  I tried setting another up on the other side of the map but then the sewage just gets pulled back and forth and goes no where!

I also ran out of space, needing another 4000k workers!  So I started a residential town in one of the other tiles.  However, very few of them will commute and when I did go back to the other city it had not noticed that it had commuting workers!  So how do regions work?  DO I need both cities loaded and running to share their resources?

Any advice would be great.

Also how big are the residence high density houses and is there any easy way to build roads to accommodate them?  Can you still build blocks where they have road access on just one side?

Is it possible to build an extra connection to the highway?  Will commuters shop in another city?  How can I get this region thing to work?

I know this is vauge but any help, even on just how to fix my sewage problem would be awesome.  I have 4 outlets now for 16k pop... something must be wrong!

You need a department of utility's and you need to plop a sewerage treatment plant, cost is high but you won't have that issue and there's no ground pollution, it just refills your city's water table. In a rush so can't reply to rest of post right now

As above poster said, plot the department of utilities as soon as it's unlocked.  It's an add on to city hall in case you are wondering where to find it.

Not that any of it matters, I got a sync then quit screen let it run and exit on its own.  Then went to play again and found the last hour of play undone... GRRR is this a common problem?

Build it away from residential if you can.  Sims don't like living next to it.  Plop a water treatment plant with filtering pumps right next to it.  Ta Da!! Endless water supply!

Thanks for the advice but I think I may have to wait for a patch or something.;.. I just 100k by gifting it to another of my cities in the same region.  The money left my main city but never turned up in the new one!  GRRRRRRR

the rgion features aren't working like they are supposed to.  They are still basically broke.  The only option right now is to create self sustaining cities as much as possible.

You must have a lot of open space in your city or you have low density roads. I have one city with over 500,000 Sims and I have a hospital, police precinct, large fire station, nuclear power, schools, colleges, trade depots, an extensive street car system, buses, and 3 recycle centers as well as the water and sewage systems.  Slow down and learn how to be efficient with the smaller space you get in this version. I have a new city where residential is only in one quarter of the city and over 50,000 Sims already.

It is very different from previous SC games but I have learned new strategies for this version.

I am having a slightly different and strange problem. My ferry terminal seems to have a constant sewage blockage problem although my sewage treatment plant is working at less than half the capacity. The terminal has been displaying the red sewage problem marker since I built a cruise ship terminal. I added extra roads to the terminal hoping it would resolve the problem to no avail. It is also in an area where all the other buildings seem to be doing perfectly well with sewage. I'm aware of people complaining about sewage outflow pipes becoming blocked due to excessive sewage going to one but this problem I am having is bizzare as it just wont flow out of one particular building  and Anyone else having sewage problems with one/ a handful of buildings too when their sewage plant is perfectly functional and under capacity?

The map in question has a large cliff running through the middle of it so planning was difficult.  No all my roads are high density but they still take forever to upgrade to the next density.  Unless I'd accidentally made the zones too small by a pixel or two.  Any tips on how to layout the right zoneage? I guess 4x4 squares are it, but I wonder if it could work with a 8X4?  Do high density buildings need road access on all edges or just one as in old games?

This was my first game and so I found planning difficult.  I've accidentialy built the whole town round the wrong way any way, with my res, upwind of my industry (ind is on the cliff though)

sigh... really do not want to start again, as I still don't feel I have mastered anything.  I have huge res demand and tonnes of open jobs but the people will not come.  Also my traffic is a huge problem, most of the kids fail to get to school because the junction which have lights don't work, they simply don't give each direction equal go.

Also is there anyone else pondering why the emergency vehicles have to wait at lights?

I believe it's because almost everything uses the same pathing, sims, sewer, water, etc.
