Does the amount of tourists you get depend on the size of the cities in your region? 

 

And I have 2 casino's in my city, they used to make profits of 9k and 5k each, then overnight they made losses of over 9k and 3k each ???

See my signature.  You need hotels for casinos to profit overnight.  Your sims will check into a hotel and about an hour game time later will fill up your casino.

ok thanks for the help, yeah I have high rise hotels and such, but overnight the casinos profit dropped from 45k to making me almost bankrupt overnight with the losses. Its like a switch just turned. Someone suggested closing them for a while and then opening them, which I tried, and are suddenly making a small profit again. Is this a bug?

 

I buggered my city up anyway as my Casinos are at the end of my commercial road, at the other end of the only 1 entrance to my city.  

 

And I looked at your guide but I couldn't see anything about whether the populations of nearby cities affects the number of tourists you get in your city?

Other cities have no influence over tourists in your city.

 

The way the tourist agent works, is each tourist has a set amount of money.  Each culture building they use will use up this money supply.  When they run out of money they leave.  After ~4 hours of spending money in a culture building, they want to rest in a hotel for an hour.  The cycle continues spend, hotel, spend, hotel, spend and then leave city broke and happy.  If there is no hotel for them to stay they leave the city "this town is boring!".
