Multiple Sewage plants

In one of my cities I recently built a second sewage treatment plant so I could have another water pumping station with a renewable water source (because for some reason my other pumping station wasn't providing water to a suburb on the other side of the city, despite having excess supply.. another issue...), but what ended up happening was all the sewage would get diverted to the new one, until its capacity would be overflowing, which polluted the ground water. Once the secondary sewage plant was over capacity, it would then start sending some to the original one, which has maxed out treatment ponds. The only way I managed to solve this problem was to max out the new treatment plant as well, wasting about $2000 income per hour.

Sewage is send to nearest sewage plant, so probably around half of your city is sending sewage to the second plant. I don't think that u can do much about that expect upgrading both as u did. Meybe you can turn off few modules in first plant and see what happens.

it sounds like that suburb almost doesnt have enough of a connection and probably uses all the water on the first few houses each time? maybe you could have avoided getting another pump if you introduce a second way into the area with no water?

Sewage, water and power agents work the same way workers, shoppers, students do. They go to the nearest possible place and if it's full they go to the next. BUT sewage can't do a U turn, it can only flow in one direction. So if your have several buildings the sewage will flow into them in a line, and the building that is farther away on that line will get used only if the ones before it are full.

If the two sewage plants are on opposite sides of the city your sewage might divide and half of it go one direction another in the other direction but don't hold your breath.

I like having services going through the roads - it's a smart idea.  HOWEVER... they need to give us something to direct and connect those utilities without having to lay new roads.  It's silly to have the game complain because power isn't getting everywhere when the plant is maxed out, power in the green and there's just nothing you can do to nudge the power to "that one block".

Sewage is especially funny.  You put down one outflow pipe - it maxes out.  You put down another one and that maxes out.  You put down a third and watch the sewage burp along back and forth, pulled in two different directions at once.  If you put a second pipe past the first one, the first pipe will overload while the second gets none.  when you get the sewage plant, it works great, but you swear the sewage doubles when the population (poopulation?) stays the about the same.  Are the people force feeding theselves?  Am I operating ancient Rome?  Go figure.

I live three miles from our sewage plant in Pittsburgh, ALCOSAN.  They have an open house every September with free food, programs and tours - we take the kids every year.   I've seen thier giant inflow pipe and cistern (It's awesome!).  And from my understanding of the actual plant which handles all of Pittsburgh Proper (Most of Allegheny county) the sewage plant you need for just a city of 100,000 people in a dinky little plot in Simcity 2013 is ridiculous.

It's not so much because of population, high density buildings do make a lot of sewage but industry and specializations are the ones that create huge quantities of it.
