Trivial matter regarding trade

So I understand how trade depots work and such, but I just wanted some confirmation regarding exporting to neighbouring cities.

Say I have a coal mine and coal power plant in one city, a self-sufficient operation with a trade depot using stored coal locally. Then I have a second city which buys power from the first city. This second city also has a coal mine with a trade depot set to export. Does the coal I export from the second city automatically go to the first city, or do I have to have a depot in the first city set to import coal?

You don't really export to cities, though. The only thing you can do is export to the global market in return for simoleons. Your first city cannot import coal from your second city (unless you manually "gift" amounts of it from your second city). Cities only import from and export to the global market.

It seems you're right. I had some suspicions, so I had to read the manual for myself (can't remember the last time I actually read a game manual) and it does indeed say that you can only gift trade resources. Thanks.

It does seem sort of silly though that you can't export and import to and from neighbouring cities.
