So what else is there to play?

I played the earliest city builders like Caesar, Pharaoh and Zeus. I wish there was more like that.

I discovered Anno recently and played 1404 and 2070. I spent A LOT more time on 1404 it was far better than 2070.

And of course sim city!

So is there anything else out there that's nice and/or new (or at least not older than 10 years)?

For $20 you can get Cities in Motion 2 off of Steam. I am very much enjoying this game. Got it yesterday and it's been running pretty much non-stop since then. Already more time than I put into that other Sim game.

Well hey, I know of Synekism here. Not got anything substantial to it as of yet, but it is fun to sink a few hours into every now and then! (hey, with each release it only gets better)

edit: oh, and it's free as of now. Not sure how this is going to go in the future but free. FREE

I didn't see Sid Meiers Railroads mentioned. I still play that from time to time but would enjoy it more if parts of it were combined with parts of Railroad Tycoon 3.

In the ANNO series I think I enjoyed 1602 the most and 1503 next. Occasionally I still play Dawn of Discovery which was just before 2070, but it gets too predictable it seems after a few hours. Also once in a while I still play Europa Universalis 3 but easily tire of it as well.

Most of those I have mentioned have new versions out that I have not purchased or played for various reasons. It seems SC4 is really hard to beat when it comes to satisfaction and holding my interest and I think that is because the game had a good foundation even if not executed perfectly and lets don't forget the big role the authors of the Mods and other plugins have played.

It is time for a good game to hit the market, one built on love, not on quick profits.

I have been playing SC4 ever since it was launched in 2003.

I purchased Sim City 2013 hoping this would be better, I was bitterly disappointed it is horrible!

I have now been playing Cities in Motion 2 exclusively since I purchased it at the beginning of April. (I did not like the original Cities in Motion!)

I preferred the old CIM lol.

I think CIM 2 has many good points but...

What we really need is for Collosal Order to make a proper SC game.

We need Collosal Order to buy Cities XL just for the assets, and what few remaining devs and artists they have, and make a SC/CIM hybrid.  Maybe allow you to focus on whatever area you want (transit or city simulation).

For anyone looking for old or new city builder games to check out, I've made two lists of games, one for ancient city builders and another for modern city builders There's lots of interesting games to check out :)

I like this thread. Lots of titles I haven't heard of before. Tropico 4 + Modern Times is probably my favorite city-builder right now. CIM1 is fun. CIM2 is good and more in-depth but I don't think it has the same charm as CIM1.

For a simulation title, I really enjoy Silent Hunter 5. That game wasn't very good at launch, but what the community modders have done with it over at subsim.com is really quite incredible.

Besides my regular and preferred SC4 and Civ III, I play Anno 1503 (very easy to mod) and Anno 1701, The Settlers 7, Northland (also called Cultures), Serf City (very old but I love it), AOE II (now in HD), Tropico 3+4 (wonderful), Planet Earth, Cities in Motion 2011 and 2013 and sometimes The Sims 2.

Quite occupied you think?......well, I spent hrs (2 to 12) on SC4 every week since 10 years (SC3K before that) and only play the others on a lazy, rainy day once or so often and rarely more than 1 hr.

I can't wait for Banished to come out and I hate SC2013.

"I love long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me." I say what I think, and not what you want to hear most of the time!
