Hello all,

Firstly im a new member so id like to say hello to everyone!

Secondly i have (like many others lol) some issues understanding the more complex details of this game! One of which is the population/worker/unfilled jobs ratio! I kept a note during one game of an Oil trading city, which itself was profitable, tho full of traffic, and at one point i had a population of 46286 and only 5437 workers? I had 4783 unfilled jobs despite the fact i hadnt laid any new industry or commercial for a long time! Is this is a bug or am i jus crap at keeping a balance?

Any help would b much appriated!

Thanks all and i hope i might b able to help some of you in the future!

Yeah, the worker to total population ratio isn't perfect, and I'm not sure exactly why. It seems to be so low. In part, it's because not every agent is a worker (school, shoppers, etc.). The first post in this thread on EA Answers seems to do a good job of figuring out how the ratio works.

Hope that helps!

Hello

Popluation number isn't accurate, it shows much more ppl than workers + shoppers + students. Overall having unfiled jobs isn't big issue as long as factories doesn't complain that they lack workers. If they do you can either destroy some industrial zones or add residential (or increase density).

All buildings from specialisations tabs, power plants, utilites etc creates XX amount of jobs but only need one employee to work properly.

To put it simply, you can run any city with only about 70% filled jobs, 70% of goods necessary for shoppers and 70% or people being educated. In that regard it's actually more realistic (but in real life there are always more unemployed people : ) )

The specializations (you used Oil) employ tons of workers, so you will have a huge spike in jobs available (or unfilled) when you build the well.

    Few traffic tips:

    - mix residential and commercial zones

    - put freight depot next to industrial zones

    - don't use 4 ways intersections

    - remember that on avenues cars can't turn left so they have to go to nearest intersection and make u-turn which slowls things down

    - don't create intersetction right at the entrence of your city, just extend avenue a little bit and go from there

Here is a video with a ton of advices on traffic (you can also watch other HalbyStarcraft vids he talks a lot about traffic).

Thanks for ur feedback! I had already done all of the above although I did not realise they can't turn left on an avenue so that's good tip to try! I tried using medium streets off the avenues but still had problems! However this was with left turns so ill rethink! I don't know how to get screen shots to show the results!
