Hi everyone.  I've a city with 236k ppl but the population seems to stop growing for a long time (it's now year 11 :P).  Most of the buildings are high density but  they do not hit the far end of the "density bar" so I assume that the density of those buildings can still upgrade.

Any idea on how to get more ppl?

Here are some figures of my city

Unemployed $ 0   $$ 3600  $$$ 0

Unfilled $9712  $$ 0  $$$ 616

Unsatisfied shoppers   $0  $$ 0  $$$469

Unsold goods all 0

Thanks!

1) You should first eliminate any unemployed population by rezoning as unemployed population are unhappy and they will not allow expansion.  Rezone any residential with the "no money" flag to retail.

2) take a look at areas where the buildings are not expanding and find out what they don't like.  Fix it.  The usual fix is to place retail closer.  I just rezone any residential with the "no shops" warning to retail.

3) Place the appropriate wealth park near any area where the buildings are not expanding.

4) Rezone any retail buildings that are failing to residential.

What this will do is mix retail with your residential and your traffic will go down.  The parks will also improve the living conditions of the population causing them to expand.

The invention of beer and the wheel were the foundation of modern civilization & together were the catalyst that split humanity into two distinct subgroups: liberals & conservatives. Some men spent their days tracking & killing animals to B-B-Q at night while they were drinking beer. These men were called "conservatives". Other men who were weaker & less skilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly B-B-Q's & doing the sewing, fetching & hair dressing. They were called "progressives".

    Thanks Zpike!  :thumb:

But sometimes it's strange that the R said "no shops" while there is a C exactly next to it :(

and sometimes R said no schools but there is a school bus stop right in front of it or even a school is next to it...  is this a bug? :lost:

    No worries, :)

Note that one reason buildings complain with a shop next door is because of differing levels of wealth.  medium wealth pop need medium wealth retail shops.

You can check your land value map to see where your different levels of citizens are.  It usually takes two parks with overlapping areas of influence to force a building to upgrade in wealth.  If you place your parks judiciously you can control where your low, medium, and high wealth population live.  That allows you to control how many jobs they have by placing retail mixed in with certain wealth levels.  If you see you have to many low wealth and not enough medium wealth then you add a park near your low wealth and wait to see how they upgrade.  Remember it takes a while for the density of an area to upgrade so you need to take your time, make small changes, and watch the results.

Note also that you can pick your high wealth area when placing your starting buildings.  If you make a ring of influence with your Town Hall, Police , Fire, and Clinic when you start your game you will have instant medium wealth land value within their influence circle.
