Very nice updates, its great to see a city you designed from the start evolve and this one has done it nicely! I have to agree with shadow when he says it was supposed to be an attack but htis has turned out green! But thats okay, as you can tell from my CJ I like green! Well done!

EDIT: Welcome to page three! Congradulations! 35.gif35.gif

    Small disaster (for me) ... my PC has recently died for some reason, so it will have to go for repair. Until them I am unable to update

    Tracker: Once again thanks for the suggestions. Once I am back in action I will take a look at all of them.

    Dsrwhat316:  Those buildings are Jebel Blove on Shore by bgtcn (apologies for not crediting earlier, but I sometimes lose track of what I have downloaded and what are regular ingame buildings).

    chocolatemax285 & Shadow_Assassin: The Attack on Mother Nature refers to my style of terraforming around my develoment plan as opposed to adapting my plan to the terrain. This is fairly clear in the first few pages, but what is perhaps not so clear is the additional terraforming I do as I am zoning.

    Once again, thank you to all who have dropped by and especially those who have posted comments.

    Bye for now.

    This is a CJ well worth keeping an eye on... I think it merits a place in my signature.

    BTW, where did you get the red streets?

    Very nice. I'll be following this if I can remember its name and where it is. I like your design of the city.

    olly:  Thank you very much, I'm not sure it deserves a place on your signature but all the same I am very very grateful for such a generous gesture. The red streets are part of Trolca's dirt street pack which you can find on the STEX. I think there are others available and it can be a bit tricky with Trolca's as they are not ploppable as such, but change to the red brick as high wealth develops.

    Micah & Goldfish4209: Thanks for the comments.

    superchad: Well its now back at the shop, so we'll see how they get on but thanks for the offer of help.

    Just a quick note to say I'm back live again..PC is repaired and files apparently saved. I have to reload SC4 & RH and I now can't find my game manual for SC4 (so no code)....it'll be hiding around here somewhere so I'm sure it'll turn up.

    Anyhow, important thing is I still have the data for my city so soon enough I'll be able to re-start my journal.

    Welcome to Austerlitz Update #12

    Finally back in action after my mini crisis and thankfully all my data was saved.

    Population of Austerlitz has risen to 77,000 (around 26,000 low wealth, 42,000 medium wealth & 9,000 high wealth sims) and demand for just about everything is riding high. Traffic is good in the developed areas although some outlying districts are suffering because of the muddled way I zone off screen in order to satisfy demand while I am beautifying those areas I am concentrating on.

    Industry is flourishing in the Central Industrial Park, so I'll start here with the screen shots. There are plenty of downloads from the STEX, including gems from Simgoober, jestarr, greatdane, gascooker & bgtcn (if anyone spots any work I forget to credit, please let me know)

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Central%20Industrial%20Park%204.JPG align=baseline>

    I have traffic controls on each road leaving the Industrial area, so all freight is directed onto rail. The current rail yard is a little basic (I've plans to completely redesign things, but that's fior another time).

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Freight%20Yard.JPG align=baseline>

    On the edge of the Industrial Park, in the shadows of Mons Badon, retailers are profiting from the early signs of disposable income in Austerlitz.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Retail%20Mons%20Badon%201.JPG align=baseline>

    The main Commercial area is building up, as planned, around Central Station but is not really worth a detailed look as yet....it's a pretty boring place if I'm honest. Still, the immediate vicinity of the station is not too bad so here's a sneaky view around each side.

    Comments always welcome, as are suggestions and threats (hey, feedback is feedback).

    Very nice terraforming and city building....The terraforming reminds me fondly of Sim City 2000.... ahhh the good old days of filling an entire map with Arcologies....

    Anyways, looks like this CJ is going to be great, Bravo! 44.gif

    Welcome to Austerlitz Update #13

    I thought I would explain what I mean by off screen development, so I'm starting this update with a region shot.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Region%20View%2013.JPG align=baseline>

    As you can see, there is plenty going on in Austerlitz that I have not posted. Most of the off screen areas are rather thrown together, with abandonment rife and lots of the usual problems associated with a growing city. It's not that I'm intentionally hiding the city's growing pains, but this is my style of play. I zone large areas of residential in either a grid pattern or as I hope to model later, but more with the temporary intention of feeding the city's demand for housing than as I wish it to be within my plan. This has a dual effect of providing income and demand for jobs. I've never been able to grow my cities uniformly i.e. balancing the demand, so therefore I always seem to get abandonment. I found that if I kept zoning in this way but re-modelled specific areas as I went along, those areas that I worked on in more detail kept free of problems. Of course, it doesn't always work and sometimes it needs tweaking, but in general the process works ok for me.

    Population has risen by 10,000 or so since my last update and I've been paying a bit more attention to the city centre. No skyscrapers yet (in fact hardly any midrise either) but I've laid some of the pattern out. The centre is on 3 or 4 levels and there is an open feel to it already. Everything is zoned high density, so when the time is right the skyline should shoot up.

    I want greenery around as well as plazas so I've lined the sunken roads and rail with trees. Incidentally, most of my sunken transit is lined first with Morifari's green filler tiles. They have no park effect and accept trees plopped on them, so I find them invaluable. the no park effect is particularly useful as it means I can add green to lower wealth areas without effecting the desirability.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//City%20Centre%20+%20Station.JPG align=baseline>

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//City%20Centre%201.JPG align=baseline>

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//City%20Centre%202.JPG align=baseline>

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//City%20Centre%203.JPG align=baseline>

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//City%20Centre%204.JPG align=baseline>

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//City%20Centre%205.JPG align=baseline>

    To mark the entrance of one of the city's key expressways, the overbearing image of Mayor Steele has been erected with the sole intention of providing target practice for the city's enormous pigeon population.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Statue.JPG align=baseline>

    Finally, there was shock and horror today in Blenheim when it was discovered that McDonalds had somehow bypassed the planning application process and begun raising cholesterol levels over a radius of 3 square miles. Some poor souls were so distraught at the sight, they swerved off the road and down some nearby steps in an apparent suicide attempt (probably).

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//McD.JPG align=baseline>

    The good citizens of Austerlitz are not going to stand for that, let me tell you. In a free for all orgy of destruction, our community minded heros soon consigned that little blot on the landscape to the history books. In its place a plaza was built, aptly named No Way My Kids Are Growing Up Eating That Crap Plaza
    It appears the owner of the offending fast food chain followed the example of the previously horrified citizens and also drove his car down the steps (how bizzarre).

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//No%20McD.JPG align=baseline>

    So draws to a close this latest update.

    Bye for now.

    1. I notice your overpasses aren't raised, they're flat over the sunken line (the road continues at the same altitude. Is that the onslopes working at the termini of the overpasses?

    Welcome to Austerlitz Update #14

    Firstly, Deathtoall & jacqulina:  Thanks as always for the positive comments.

    4 New developments since my last update:

    1. We Have Mid Rise Commercial at last !!

    2. We have a new Rail Yard.

    3. I have changed some of the stations after downloading some excellent BATs off the STEX.

    4. A Retail Park has developed to the South of the City Centre.

    The Mid Rise Commercial are now showing up on region view. Population is 120,000 and Austerlitz is still without any major traffic problems. I am toying with the idea of introducing a subway to see if that boosts commercial some more.

    Update%2014%20Region%20View%202.JPG

    So on this map I have highlighted the main areas I'll be showcasing in this update.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Update%2014%20Region%20View%201.JPG align=baseline>

    Let's start with the Rail Yard to the east of the docks. The yard is to be used for overnight storage of rolling stock and as a repair depot. There will be only a small freight terminal here eventually in order to transfer goods from the docks for distribution citywide. Thanks to Marrast, Frogface and Oppie for their creations.

    You'll notice I have zoned residential close to the rail yard. I really want row houses surrounding the terminus to give it a 1940s feel, so if anyone has any tips on how to encourage them to grow I'd appreciate it.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Rail%20Yard%201.JPG align=baseline>

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Rail%20Yard%202.JPG align=baseline>

    While we're on the subject of rail, the ugly boring Maxis station at North Badon has been torn down and replaced by Tag_one's Connexxion Station and I have used Marrast's 2x6 Station at Lower Caltraeth.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//North%20Badon%20Station%201a.JPG align=baseline>

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//North%20Badon%20Station%202a.JPG align=baseline>

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Lower%20Caltraeth%20Station.JPG align=baseline>

    I don't know about you, but sometimes I plan ahead and things go totally pear shaped and sometimes things just appear on their own, but turn out to be just what I would have hoped for. The latter has happened just south of the city centre with a retail park popping up all of its own devices. When I laid out the commercial zoning, I had in mind that it would become midrise-highrise commercial in time, but then the retail units just kept coming and I like it so it stays ! In truth it's only small, but as I am reliably informed size is not always the issue. Station by IllTonkso.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Adolphus%20retail%20Park%20Main%20Station.JPG align=baseline>

    Other side of the park:

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Retail%20Park.JPG align=baseline>

    Next is the turn of the Mid Rise. I'm really pleased with this step up. Like everyone building a city centred on a commercial district, I want height !! population is still too low for any decent sized skyscapers but I happen to think some of the Mid Rise is really attractive so some of it may stay for the duration. There are numerous BATs on show and most of the creators have already been credited. As you'll notice I'm a fan of Tonk's work and Simgoober (who isn't?), but if anyone spots something where I have not given credit please shout up...my memory for all the BATs I have is hard pressed at the best of times.

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Midrise%206.JPG align=baseline>

    Well that's all folks.

    Bye for now.

    Normally I point to railway lines ans stations and critisize and give hints to make it better.
    Here: WOW! Great raylway depot and a realistic overall layout!
    BTW: Did I ever mentioned that I LOVE RAILWAYS!!!

    Great work !!
