My new low wealth high rises are "vacant: For Sale" and have been so for a long time (2+) inspite of being in an affable location with plenty of jobs, schools, etc available.  I've tried logging and coming back on, bulldozing them etc.  They build the highrise and simply just don't sell the building preventing me from getting sims.

Any thoughts?

  • Is there any $$$ demand? Or jobs available?

Low wealth high rises or low wealth high density.  Yes there are jobs and the RCI is dumb, it doesn't work.  But the low wealth was high demand anyway.

There are usually prerequisites for high wealth to happen. Land value will create the buildings, but only certain conditions will get them to move in. Here's a checklist:

Do you have adequate health coverage?

Are there too much traffic causing the moving trucks to not get to their destination?

Is there any ground or air pollution?

    Any $$$ parks nearby?

    Is there too much crime?

What is the demand for high wealth in the other cities? Similar?

My bad. I mixed the two. Thought you meant low rise high density.

Anyway, you shouldn't be having any problems. The checklist still applies. If there are enough jobs and the demand is high enough, high density should be moved in. And if not, a few more high rises usually rises up after the first one. Do you have any photos?

  • I figured out the problem.

The AI for the moving trucks had them stuck in a loop on the same road. So they were never actually reaching their destination.

So basically, the traffic AI is still stupid.

    Yes, the pathfinding still sucks...

Maybe we were all expecting too much from the "fix" in update 7. In the end, yes, a few vehicles are better handled than before, but the vast majority of traffic is still as stupid as it was.

We probably will have to wait for Maxis to provide an offline patch (or do it by ourselves), so we can seriously begin modding the game, and provide better basic mechanics for such things (something like a mod equivalent to NAM for SC4).
