Which Simcity 4 patches...

I'm not sure whether there are any patches for vanilla SC4 but there are a couple for Rush Hour. If you have a broadband connection, I'd say your best bet is to get a digital pre-patched version of Sim City 4 Deluxe (it's not that costly these days). Then your game is compatible with all the mods that enhance the playability of the game. You'll not have this benefit without Rush Hour or the Deluxe version. Sim City 4 is a rather broken game in it's unmodded state, even if you apply official patches or stick with the pre-patched digital Deluxe version.

You kind of need the Rush Hour pack for...everything.  You should be able to pick it up for real cheap on the web.

Thanks! I really appreciate the help! I do have Rush Hour but am a dispatching guy and don't like that after the RH expansion the firetrucks nearly teleport back to their stations.

It's something you will have to live with. The amount of things Rush Hour offers is definitely worth it, as well as the ability to use custom content.

Everyone else, let's all be fair here.  If the OP doesn't want to play with Rush Hour/Deluxe, that's his choice.  We shouldn't be telling him he needs Rush Hour to play.  It is optional.  After all, when the game first came out, we didn't have Rush Hour and that's how we all played.  If people like to play that way, it's up to them.  The only reason he would need Rush Hour/Deluxe is to download custom content.  Period.  But if he doesn't want to do that, then so be it.

Have fun with the original game after you've patched it.  The patches the previous poster gave you is a set of bug fixes.  Almost none of the custom content on the exchanges will work with that version, but there are some if you look for some that were loaded before rush hour game out (2002-2004).  I played that version until Rush Hour came out, and it is a lot of fun.
