Letting the simulation run overnight

Back in the SimCity 2000 days, I would let the city run overnight, or all day long, then the next morning, or when I come home from school I've got lots more money (hopefully).

With this new SimCity, has anyone tried, or would even considering doing something like this?

Personally I wouldn't because there's no way to save the city before leaving it to run, which sucks because the city could be completely destroyed while you're gone and there'd be no way to go back.  And of course the server's would cry over it and what if EA starts blacklisting overplayers!

Yeah, i did this last night, made sure i had my specializations importing and when i wokeup i had roughtly 12 million, 1/3 or my city was rubble but thats because a giant lizard just came through. But overall it was good, im working on a great works project with my big city, losing 50k an hour, but if i export my tvs i can easily make that money back. I would say just make sure your city can be sufficent

No, I would not try it unless maybe you are playing in sandbox and have the disasters turned off.  All it would take is a couple earthquakes to destroy your entire economy and city IMO.

I had a particularly nasty earthquake about 30 minutes ago, it wiped out at least 5 huge blocks and then the fires afterwards devastated probably 1/3 of my buildings even though I had 6 of my own firehouses and was sent aid from a couple other cities in the region.

That's pretty risky with natural disasters. My city relies on specializations, I run 70k+ in the red. If something took those out my city would bankrupt fairly quickly. This might work okay on some cities but not others.
