Also If you can make a logo for the sigs of the winners PM me.

Well That is all for now entries and questions will now be received!

Also There must be at least 3 entries per category for the contest to take place.

When you post your entry at the first part put this:

Umm, I don't think I'll be playing SC4 in 2012.

Why?

No need to be rude/sarcastic/holier-than-thou...

It's obvious dev has worked hard on this and it doesn't merit ridicule.  I think it's a good idea, but it would be much better hosted on a site like SCH, what with Simtropolis being pressed for bandwidth.  Why don't you host the site on SCH, which is looking for content anyway?  You could link to the latest developments and put news, awards, etc. and a sampling of entries (with the pictures hosted on SCH) here.  That would be nice.  I may enter, although right now I don't have anything suitable.  The restrictions are kind of intense...

Also, I'd make 3 pictures the minimum and 6-8 the max.  Just a thought.

Also...ert...I don't think he was talking about having the contest in 2012...it's 2012, I believe, because the host city hasn't been chosen yet.

Dev, I think it's a cool idea. It's something I would definetly watch, but I could never enter, with my less-than-mediocre skills. But let us know if you hold the contest elsewhere, cause it sounds interesting.

i'll step on in here, and say that i think this is a pretty good idea. it is topical (the olympics are coming up soon), it is a challenge, and it could be fun.
unfortunately, it probably will not gain that much attention for a few reasons.
    • dev has gained the reputation of being a bit strange, so people write off his posts quite quickly. even good ideas like this.
    • the olympics have lost interest. with professional athletes participating, drug violations, and an olympic event every two years, i think the public has become less interested in the sports. that, combined with the fact that many times, they are held in a time zone far from our own.
    • participating in this contest will take work. A LOT of work. customized BATs would be a big plus to anyone participating...which knocks many yahoos like me out. of course, making customized logos and such would also knock many out.

    just my two cents.

I personally love the idea and i just got done spending about 45 mins laying out some plans for an olympic park. The park includes about 5 custom large bats all meant to be layed out together. Also im going to go ahead and try to start an olympic bat team. The team will (if it every gets of the ground) be lead by myself and be treated just as a team that would design a real olympic facility. This means i will be a head architect in a team of maybe 5 batters including myself and well will create a stadium complex that will probabbly win this contest (sorry if im being alittle rude by assuming that but if a team of batters puts that much work into this and i photoshop some logos and medals and stuff and then buid a custom region for this then im not seeing a single person beating it again im not trying to say im better or anything just that if i can get a team together it will be hard to beat. Also noteing the extreme lack of enthusiasm dusk has i guess i probabbly wont be asking him to be a part of the team.

Anyways i definately am very excited to start up this project.

Oh and one last idea someone said that people have lost interest in the oplypics well what if we used the facitlty that wins to host the 2004 golden lamma awards. Or perhaps a simtropolis olympics. Im not sure what kind of events we could all play over the net but im sure it would be fun. Anyways im off to start the olympic batting thread.

Oh and just to sort of help dev out here. I always like seeing his avater for some reason it just makes me smile. Anyways i dont think ive seen any of his posts that have been in anyway offending or rude or out of place. He seems to have alot of excitements and alot of his ideas are great and im tired of people dumping on threads like this.

Does anyone else here find it funny that dusttrooper complains about it clogging up the recent replys list, but, instead of pming dev to tell him his opinion, he choses to reply, which puts it up on the recent replys list?  I personally think it's a good idea, but it's slanted too heavily in favour of those good at photoshop or BAT.  (Though I do have a friend with mad gmax skillz.  Hmmm... )

Just a quick suggestion with the Olympic Games competition. You should also request the entrants to include submit photos of their transport network as well. An important criteria in deciding a host city. Not just great facilities but also have to be able to get spectators there as well.

Blackbeard, if you have nothing nice to say, then don't post at all.  Let's see you put something like this together.  Kinda like how you're so critical on lots, yet the lot you made sucked.  dev, I'll be happy to be a judge.

Well as far as that, it was a secret part of the judge's sheet but, I guess we could allow them to tell if they want.

As to blackbeard you need to get a life rather than SPAMming other people's post.

I know some people who r going to enter,

And tthanks for being a judge, I will have nominations for the best 2 thru a poll and then the judges will give their scores, Blackbeard, I ask you edit your post, please because I do not like spam. Meat or Internet type.

Not to get off track but The Evil Octopus Man deserves a reply to his remarks towards me.
That lot that you said sucks well it wasn't suppose to be anything worth wild.I'm using a antique of a system and it won't run those fancy programs. Then comes the issue on my comments on STEX.If you bothered to read instead of shooting your mouth off 9 out 10 comments left by me were very nice.
If EA/Maxis designed these tools for the average person then I know without a doubt I could give your lots a run for there money.Oh DEV if your reading this I was only pulling your leg with my comments but some folks don't have a sense of humor. The End

I think this is a really cool idea. I just hope you can get enough people to enter seeing as there are many of us who are not so hot with the BAT. I look forward to seeing the entries.

Heh...I remember this...Well...it has been almost 2 years and nothing really happened, so I'd assume that no, it is not still happening. Someone else can use the idea if they want though.

Well, I remember a contest a long time ago on another set of forums as the 05 race was just beginning to heat up, around the time of Athens. It was non-sim city forum, and we used real world citys. I'm uploading the contest themes, that is the bid book themes. Its the closet to realism as you can come if you want to have a summer olympics bid. The problem is, it would require a TON of work, but there is a max word amount per theme to keep it reasonable. Would be neat though if the winner had there non-built venues get created by some people who know how to make this stuff. I would be willing to run the contest, and I also have mini-bid book requirements, so we could even have a short list of sorts. The whole contest lasted 4-5 months...

btw, the themes are attached, and its likely there are somethings that would conflict with sim city, that would be edited...

And one more thing, all bids in that contest where done with 2-3 people...
