Patch 1.2

  • Fix for crash caused most commonly occurring on servers

experiencing lag. This crash would happen most often when claiming a new

city when playing in a region.

  • Fix for server select dialog not appearing on start-up if the server the player was last on is not available.
  • Disabled Cheetah speed. Cheetah speed is is now the same as llama speed.
  • Crash fix for finding closest points.
  • Crash fixes in transport and pedestrian code.
  • A fix cities having processing problems associated with helicopters.

"Disabled Cheetah speed. Cheetah speed is is now the same as llama speed."

I pray to the EA gods that this is only temporary. ._.

While crash fixes are good, they are of no use if you don't let us in...

Oh no! What speed will I use now besides pause?  I guess this will also help contribute to the longevity of the game.

Ummm, that is a bad decision. Will force players to just stare at their screen waiting for stuff to happen.

I've been playing almost entirely on llama speed; cheetah just goes too fast once the initial settlement phase is past.  At that speed, you don't have time to really plan things out, looking at the data layers to pick the best spots for things.  Once you fill the tile and have to start optimizing your layout around specializations, it's important to do things right.  Also, if something goes wrong in your city (say, running low on power), in the time it takes you to fix the problem, the city might start to collapse due to the shortage, while on a slower speed you'd be able to fix it in time.  Back in beta, the traffic perma-jammed at one intersection (a bug they've since fixed, supposedly), blocking my police and fire services from reaching a quarter of the city.  By the time I noticed, enough fires had started that that section burned down, and half my population left as a result.

But I'm betting this is just temporary, and will go back to normal within a week.  My uneducated guess is that the cheetah speed wasn't causing instabilities by itself, but that if the server was acting sluggish then cheetah could result in too much happening between server updates.  So, if they fix the server issues then the problem could go away on its own.

I sped down to UPS this morning and returned my SC2013 to Amazon for a refund.

They are getting really desperate to start disabling gameplay features to reduce server loads.

You're probably right, but it's a kind of lame excuse if that's the case. :P

I see your point but surely having the option rather than no option is best for both of us where by i would like to use it - you don't need it but removing means now i can't use it.

They must be really desperate to take some load of the servers by disabling a faster simulation. According to the devs, this is apparently not a "critical feature" while they try to fix the server issues.

    *Edit* Update by a dev

Sorry for the delay. As most people have already guessed, cheetah speed has been temporarily disabled to reduce the amount of load on the servers. While the server team works to improve server performance, we are hopeful that this will allow more players to play the game in the interim. We fully intend to reenable cheetah speed once server stability improves.
