Servers down periodically, can't abandon my city for some reason, can't start a new city for some reason, freezes up and crashes occasionally. Lost a city because of that. Now I can only play in 'visiting mode' in my own city.

    Wow....

I want to like this game but I'm not really able to play yet so far...

    Game crashed again.

    Lost another city.

There will be server issues for a few more weeks. As a video game developer myself, the time right after launch can be some of the most hectic days serverwise. Trust me, it may be annoying as hell right now but I'm absolutely sure Maxis is wanting to resolve all these nuisances  After all, Maxis wants its users to tell other people about how great their game is... not about how much the game crashes.

Yet they could have avoided this all together if they didn't have the always online DRM right? Or at least make singleplayer offline so that you can actually play the game if the servers are down. But no.. they decided to go the Diablo 3 route and make it completely online. This game's launch and the game itself is a travesty. People payed $60-$80 for it and can't even download it in some instances. I thank God I didn't preorder it after playing the beta. I can only see more and more server-related issues down the road before they eventually pull the plug because of low player count.

Of course they could have.  but they ignored all of the negative feedback and instead poured all kinds of effort into trying to drown it out or discredit it.  They deserve all the blowback they will be getting for this and then some.

I guess its a matter of mindsets. Personally I play a lot of games like simcity with online aspects that go wrong from time to time. Personally I also have been wanting a Simcity with basically all the features they added. Given that, I can take this situation. Im sure though a lot of people who didnt want the onlined features are peeved as hell lol.
