The Reviews on Amazon.com are trickling in...

Count these: Amazon Verified Purchase

You get the Amazon Verified Purchase next to your name when you have bought the product you are reviewing.

I'm allowed to submit a review, thought my cousin bought me the game on her account (she owed me money).

I think you have to have record of buying something on Amazon.

It says there you bought the game. I have bought something on Amazon. That does not give me the right to reviews things I haven't bought.

Can you tell us how you got your percentage? If not, why should we believe you?

From Amazon's customer service page:

Does the reviewer have to buy the item from

Amazon.com?

No. It doesn't matter where an item was purchased, or if it was a

gift, or if the reviewer just borrowed it for a weekend. If someone feels moved

to write a review of an item, and they are a registered Amazon.com customer,

they are welcome.<

/p>

Forbes explains it here in this article titled Fake Reviews: Amazon's Rotten Core.

I took the number (people can edit their reviews) of Amazon verified users and divided it by the total number of reviews in that ranking.

You can count yourself if you'd like.

You don't have to believe me, but at least believe Amazon.

Are you saying you think someone is paying a bunch of money for people to write hundreds of fake negative reviews?

There is a chance some have been payed off.

I mean people do get paid to write positive reviews for products.

Most of the reviews as I have posted are from people who are angry fanboys, or just angry at EA who had no intent of buying the game.

So instead of actually playing and buying the game, said people decided to spout off on Amazon and other sites.

The main point is, you don't have to buy the product to post a review.

"angry fanboys" need I remind you that we are all posting on a message board exclusively for SimCity. I think that would make us fanboys. thus calling all the negative reviews on amazon "angry fanboys" seems a bit hypocritical.

Not really.

Those of us who liked the betas and the final game (when we can get it to work), are looked down upon on this board alone (that is putting it nicely).

Many of the people who have hated the game from the early days have gone out of their way to target anyone who remotely had anything positive to say about this game.

They will continue to do so until the mods finally shut down this board or start banning people.

We even had people post threads on this board stating the mods were going out of  their way to crush negative opinions to this game and backing those who liked the game.

These people derail any and all topics that aren't negative towards EA or the game.

I mean there is something wrong with a person when they have that much of an emotional connection to a game (or any product for that matter).

I wonder when the Simcity 4 mafia will finally move on with their lives.

Is it time to make this site into an exclusive Simcity 4 forums?

When people start reviewing this game based on the actual gameplay I'll take it on board.  So long as people are rating it 1* because they couldnt log straight away/hate origin/hate EA etc I wont.

Its interesting to see that on metacritic its rated at 82/100 by the critics (people who are taking an objective view) yet is given 2.0/10 by users, many of which havent actually played it. http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/simcity

Unfortunately its a sign of the times that popular online games all seem to struggle to some extent on launch until servers are optimized correctly.

I'll reserve my judgement once the hysteria is over and servers are sorted.

Why shouldn't these issues be taken into account?  they are part of the game.  when you design a game to require server access and can't provide the service that should absolutely be a black mark against you in a game review.

I tried to post my opinion early on.  I even read the rules of the forums.  As soon as I posted a couple of things, my posts were changed and I was asked in PM to tone it down, even though I didn't say anything against anyone.  I was respectful, courteous, and followed the rules.  So yes, I do believe negative opinion was getting crushed.  You see, you said, "there is something wrong with a person" which should technically be called out by the mods, but they won't do it.  You want to know what I got called out for?  I said, "I feel like puking".  Yes, that is why my post was changed.  I was not trolling, calling anybody names, or anything else, I simply stated my opinion, where as you are saying that all of us with negative attitudes are somehow damaged.  So I end with this...I'm happy and sad the game is an utter failure at this point.  I truly hope EA learns a HUGE lesson here.  They got what they deserved.

Well, actually they don't deserve nothing at this point simply because they didn't do anything, nothing positive and nothing negative....yet. Nothing important enough to mention it. If the game will jump up within the next week or so, then it should be alright (personally I still won't like the game though because of the internet connection, simply becasue I cannot use it where I play my SC's the most.), and if not....well...then I think it will be necessary to give them what they deserved, if so. And so what exactly should they deserve? What could a small failure like this do to a company that big, eh? Do you actually think that folks will stop buying their products because of this?

EA is a big money machine and a little publicity like this, whether bad or good, can only be of a positive follow-up. That is Marketing! I'm pretty sure that more people know the name of EA now than last week.... ;) What do ya say..........

Bad publicity is great marketing for people like Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian who have no other talents to speak of but for a corporation like EA that needs to keep its shareholders happy, with thousands of consumers demanding refunds,  this very public debacle is all bad.

That's a bit extreme, no? I, as a CXL fan, have been ridiculed for liking that game. However, with all of the awesome mods coming out for it and the increased awareness of the talented community surrounding CXL, such criticisms have waned. I do agree there is a strong and strict group on ST which expects nothing but positive praise for SC4 and nothing but doom and gloom for other games.

However, I don't think this is the case here. Why wouldn't a SC fan, or fan of any game franchise really, not want a new and worthy entry in the franchise? Why would they not look forward to and be excited for news, interviews, videos, and screenshots about the new game? Why wouldn't they scrutinize said news in order to try and discern what the new game will be like? Why wouldn't they comment on features they like and are looking forward to, and comment on features (or non-features) they do not? And why wouldn't they criticize the game company when they cannot deliver the expected product at the release date? What's so brutish, slimy, and thug-like about that process?

I will say, concerning ST supporting or not supporting certain sides, that a recent news story concerning another, independent city-building game was swiftly removed from the news section of the site after being posted there, coincidentally right after the release date of the "big game". That doesn't really mean anything, of course, but it's just interesting.
