Would this change opinions on Soceities?

Soceities is a game that gets no and or negative attention, but suppose this happened.

Suppose there was a mod easily downloadable that allowed for zoning buildings in a similar fashion to that of SC4. And this mod is a mod that also allows you to zone venues, which, if I'm not mistaken, was added to Soceities.

So, the game wouldn't be perfect, I like it more than most do, would this increase the game's popularity around sites like this one? Let me hear your thoughts on this.

PS A mod like this is not my next big project. My next project is to figure out how the $@#% BAT works

Zoning in SC Societies would not be possible because of the fact that every building has different societal points. Also, there are no diagonal roads in SimCity Socities. --Ocram

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I believe it would be possible, i've seen modder's do some crazy coding when it come's to game's that allow access to create mod's, the problem i think is that to do this, would require almost an entire game engine rework, building stats, building textures, roads etc ( aka months of coding and deep developement ) and some extremely skilled mod developers, who probably dont have the interest nor the time to do so

But hey, if simcity 5 fails, and the modders need something to do, they could give it a try.

But its doubtful its going to happen

Needless to say, i do think its a great idea, if those feature's like zoning, curved roads were added to simcity's societies, no doubt the game's opinion would improve immensely, every review i read said the same thing "this game is missing the best feature of simcity's game's - ZONING!"

Well, modders can only do so much. They can hook their mods into the interfaces provided for such purposes by the programmers.

AFAIK, SC:S doesn't even have any interface for mods worth mentioning.

What you mention, Saturn64, has nothing to do with "modding", it's a complete re-write of the game's source code right at the core of the game engine, as nankura correctly stated. This would require full access to the game's source code, and even then the question remains: Can I even add/modify anything as substantial as that without re-writing the entire game code? I tend strongly towards a "no" in this case. It could be easier to write an entirely new game code from scratch and copy/paste some sub-modules of the Societes code for isolated functions or aspects.

That's why the scenario you describe is totally improbable and unrealistic - so much so, in fact, that I cannot even muster the motivation to muse about it in a purely theoretical / speculative manner, I'm sorry.

Learning how to BAT is an entirely different thing - there are lots of tutorials around, and ultimately all it takes is time and dedication. Remember that you don't need to ask for "BAT tutorials" because it doesn't matter, Ultimately, a building - like any other object - is composed of different shapes, and if you know how to use a modeling software to recreate particular shapes and forms, you can make anything. Once you know how to model, for example, an M-16 rifle using certain techniques, there is no reason whatseover why you shouldn't be able to model a house using the same techniques. That's what many people tend to forget. Learnt how to make a tapered cylinder for a gun barrel? Congrats, then you also know how to make a tapered cylinder for a factory smokestack. Learnt how to make holes (slots) into a surface for a heat baffle? Great, then nothing keeps you from adding window holes to the wall of a house.
