I know that you can start a private region then at any time invite anyone you want, but I'm not sure whether or not there is an option to turn a private region into a public one.

I suppose another relevant question would be if one could go the other way. Can a player turn a public region into a private one?

 

Personally I always imagined the public/private thing to be a little toggle switch somewhere, but yeah I don't think we've gotten any info about this from Maxis yet.

And actually, I thought I heard a developer mention that anyone could invite into a region once they were in. The only difference between public and private is that public didn't require an invite.

So if I invite Bob, Bob can invite Tim, and I don't know Tim... and then Tim can invite John, and neither Bob nor I know John, and John can even Greg, and neither I, nor Bob, nor Tim knows Greg... etc., on down the line. I hope I've misunderstood this implications.

If I'm hosting a private region, I want a lot more control over who can come in and control what squares. I'd even go so far to say that if I'm the host of a private region, I should be able to remove any mayors I think are playing intentionally in a way that is negatively impacting the rest of the region.
