Parking

Dear all,

I am just wondering.

I've seen quite a lot of footage now on Youtube.

But, I can't see 1 thing at the moment: Parking!

Where are all the cars going to park? There are no garages and the roads don't really give room for parking. And the housing, when small there is room. But when appartment buildings are going up, Where are they place the cars?

Sorry, this seems quite bad English, tired. Hopefully you understand my question.

Greetz

I think they just drive into the buildings, if I recall correctly.

Most of the §§ and §§§ apartment buildings and some of the § tenements have uncovered parking. I'm guessing that the high density housing will have underground parking. The parked cars don't have a one-to-one relation with the number of sims in the building that commute by car though. Here's some apartments with parking from one of the cities I built:

They also have "Park and Ride" lots that are enabled for transit. i just haven't noticed any parking structures yet.

I was hoping for zone-able parking lots, but that will have to do.

yeah, parking is one of the things that no city simulator has every done right. its one of the things I have always sought after when I look for mods. parking may take up a lot of space and does not look very good, but, it is realistic. as far as SC2013, the park and ride under mass transit is the closest thing I've seen, and I am not entirely sure how it works...

From the description (and from real life) it allows sims who do not live in walking distance of a bus stop to access the bus network. According to the description it will be used by § and §§ sims.

ok, I can understand that, but, why use a park and ride when I can just put down a bus stop every 100 feet. I am pretty sure bus stops are cheaper and take up no space. I guess this is something we will have to experiment with! is it better to have a ton of bus stops or fewer stops with park&rides?

A bus stop will only server residents within a certain distance, where as a park and ride will have a greater distance.

You can focus on getting sims to drive to the park and ride, reducing the number of stops a bus has to take in a particular area, thus making your buses more efficient and faster.

If you want sims who commute from another city to be able to use your bus network then you need a park and ride.

That picture shows really well just how much wasted space these buildings have around them to allow for the curved roads. Planners would get the sack if they created cities like that in real life!

Can you explain why this is an issue in this game?

I don't see it is a problem, firstly because it's a game and not reality ... But secondly, the technical issues related to creating assets that could fit perfectly into any zoned space with any curved road would be so complex the game would not be released until 2015. If you can show me a game that already does it, then great ...

But what do you want to see in those spaces anyhow?
