I like it, but there are a few flaws to notice, and improve:

1. The repetition of buildings is detrimental in mimicking a real-life city. No neighbourhood of any borough of any city features countless copies of the same building. As in your case, there's too many Wren Insurance buildings (and a whole lot of others) all over your city.

2. While the parks are okay (Central Park is too small), one thing to note is that Miss Liberty is on an ISLAND. Putting it on Staten Island (or any other place other than Liberty Island itself) kills realism.

3. NYC is known for its bristling skyscrapers, especially in Manhattan. Even the less dense areas in New York has some tall buildings. Your version lacks exactly that: there's still a lot of low-rise in Manhattan, and there's a lot of unused space here and there. The McDonald's north of Central Park is also too suburban.

4. You need more seaports and airports. NYC has 3 airports (2 if you ignore Joizey) and miles and miles of harbour space. The least you can do is cluster more seaports near the one you plop in.

To conclude, it's already a fine job for beginners. I suggest you check out the Simtropolis Exchange and download custom buildings and mods. The Network Addition Mod (NAM) is perfect to solve traffic and employment problems in town, and there's tonnes of buildings in the exchange that's taken from real-life New York. You can also check out the Omnibus for tips and tutorials, such as creating straight coastlines (perfect for plopping Battery Park) and others.

So far, you are off to a good start! However, to add to nukehumvee, there are a few more areas that could also use some TLC:

-Look into getting some terrain and mods. The original textures for the environment aren't very realistic so most CJs have mods that change the look of the land and water to something more realistic. The STEX has a good selection to choose from, but you'll have to enter each city tile, save and exit to get the full effect in the region.

-If you are trying to recreate NY in simcity, you have all the basic locations for landmarks. However, you should start studying maps and looking for certain buildings on the STEX. For example, I noticed you have the Twin Towers in the right area, but in real life the World Financial Center sits next to the WTC on the shore. And to expand on the industrial waterfront, look into the CDK3 collection by Pegasus. He has a huge selection of waterfront buildings you can use for your industrial waterfront.

-Instead of using the default airport, try downloading the RMIP and other airport modds. Most are just for looks, and they are puzzle pieces (meaning you have to build it piece by piece) but they look awesome in a CJ.

- Photoshop will be your best friend. With it, you can add effects like rain, snow, clouds and any other effect you want.

-If you're serious about recreating NYC, I would suggest using It is a perfect replica of the geography of the NYC region. You don't have to worry about city size or anything so you can fit everything into NY.

-And most importantly, listen to advice readers give you. They will help your CJ go a long way.

Just a friendly comment, Move the Statue of Liberty to its own island like the real one on formerly Bedloe's Island now Liberty ISland in New York.
