Windows 7 Professional (SP1)

Intel Core i7 @ 3.4GHz

RAM @ 16GB

64-bit OS

AMD Radeon HD 7770

Just loaded SC4 Deluxe on the system and the screen flickers during start-up, at the region map, and in city. Any thoughts? I already tried to go through the imagecfg process with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated - I have searched the threads so excuse me if I missed a post on this!!!

A few things that might help:

  1. In your Catalyst control panel be sure that all 3D options are set to "application selected" or equivalent wording.

  2. Turn off clouds, waves, and set shadows to medium or low on the game graphics panel.

  3. In the shortcut that starts the game, after the final quote on the target line add 1 space and -CPUcount:1

Do you have a 16:9 (HD) display?

Just throwing this out there, though not saying it has anything to do with the problem....

What is the refresh rate of your monitor?

    Did what you suggested......minimal change.

Current display settings set at 1600:1200 in both game display setting and cpu monitor setting.

flickering has slowed quite a bit, but now there are random lines on the screen. I'll run it this way and search a few more options to see if it clears up during game play. and here I thought I had a decent graphics card......thanks for the help!!!

max refresh rate at 75 Hz

Try running the game in software rendering mode....see if that helps.

This may or may not be related and i'm not sure where else to post it, but...i was getting some flickering in cities, mainly from lights on every building but other weird things too like edges of roads. It wasn't the whole screen but it was very annoying. What i did is go into NVIDIA control panel >Manage 3D settings for Sim City 4.0 > turn off Antialiasing FXAA. Fixed the flickers i had and i can run in hardware rendering mode just fine at 1920x1080. I'm also not forcing the game to run on one core, and it's been smooth as butter with zero crashes for about an 8 hour stint tonight. It should also be noted that if you use software rendering, it seems to disable the Steam overlay which is why i tinkered with this for an hour before i figured out it was the FXAA (i like the overlay and therefore wanted to use hardware rendering).

    This is on Windows 7 64 bit, i7 3770K, GTX 670x2.

That is correct. This program was written before any GPU 3D features existed and some of them can actually cause the game to crash. Make sure they are all disabled if necessary.

Mine was tessellation. Open Catalyst control center --> 3D settings --> scroll down and set tessellation to use application settings. Apply and restart SC4 if it is open.

I have an AMD 7850 and a FX-6300 on this specific PC with the 14.7 RC3 beta drivers installed.
