CTD's After Installing Tree Controller SOLVED

I don't know why, but the game keeps crashing to the desktop! I'm at my wit's end! I started with a fresh install of Simcity 4 on a new computer that will run all of my other plugins perfectly, but crashes whenever I place trees using the "Pacific Northwest Tree Controller" by Blunder. And it's not even a problem of having another tree controller installed-I've checked! This is my current plugins folder:

What am I doing wrong?

When exactly does the game CTD? And are you trying to use the controller in a fresh tile, or has it yet seen some development?

The game CTDs when I'm placing the trees-it'll let me place a few trees then it'll CTD the way it does when the game gets confused over multiple cores (though I have tried setting the affinity to only one core and that doesn't change anything). And it doesn't matter if it's on a fresh tile or one with development.

Well, that's unusual to say the least. Especially since it'll plant some trees before CTD. Frankly, I have no clue why that would happen, I'll see if I can replicate it. For now I'm sorry to say my only suggestion is to tinker with the affinity and graphics options.

Oh, and have you tried software mode yet?

Were you using any other tree controller prior to installing this one?

No-that's the weird thing, I haven't used any before this, and it's on a clean, new install of the game.

Have you read this before downloading, sir..??

    Known Issues:

    1. CTD- any flora from an old tree controller must be removed before the old tree controller file is deleted from your Plugins or a crash will occur. A lesser known issue is that if the file with the old MMP brush is gone but the model file still exists in the plugins, the tree will still show up and the game will be playable. However if that tree gets destroyed (either by bulldozing or by changing the elevation of the terrain underneath it) this will also cause a crash.

This tree controler by Blunder is for advance user, if this is the first time you use tree controller, may i suggest you to use another tree controler that will be easier use like

Well I have used a few before this, but on a different computer-I know how to use them and I've followed all directions-there could be no way that another tree controller is in there causing the crash.

Can anybody tell me if there's anything that's interfering with it in that picture of my plugins directory?

(There also aren't any other plugin folders in the game directory.)

HOLY CRAP I solved it! All the problem was, as it turned out was that it wasn't updated properly since it was a fresh install.

We, can only suggest here,...for we're not the creator itself...

Check the link that Ihrob gave you before....if that doesn't help you, then my other suggestion is to PM the creator which is Blunder himself. You'll get more comprehensive explanation from him.

EDIT: Nice to hear that you solved the problem....have a good game to you then.. :)

Thanks, I love Simcity 4. Though you guys didn't solve it, I thank you for the help.

Well, you're welcome, even though we were totally useless. :uhm::cry: But I'm glad you got the problem solved. :thumb:

Just a quick note for those whose posts seemed to have "disappeared"...

In today's environment with all the possible machine characteristics that exist, and all the possible combinations of plugins available, there, naturally, could be a plethora of possible solutions to issues raised here in the forums. It is rarely possible, nor expected, for one person to have all the answers; sometimes it takes a team. And yes, sometimes assumptions are made, and sometimes it's the "obvious" answer that turns out to be the correct one. We are, after all, human, and I'm sure we've all had those "duh, why didn't I think of that" moments - I know I've had my share. But does this mean that those who offer assistance should feel a "failure" or be criticized for not coming up with the correct solution immediately? Of course not. It simply means that, given time, with volume of experience and expertise that resides in the members who wish to contribute, the answer will be provided if at all possible. With this said, it is certainly hoped that those who wish to contribute continue to do so, and not be afraid of being "wrong". Today's suggestions could be the answer to tomorrow's problems.

I'll come down off this "soapbox" by saying this... Any assistance given by the members here is more than welcome and very much appreciated, as indicate by the numerous "Thank you" posts displayed in the forums. Giving aid to those who ask questions is one of the strengths of these forums and of the community we are part of.

    Thanks for "listening"...

I certainly apologize for contributing to the tension. I just felt "slapped", and slapped back - that's all. I shouldn't have done that. So I'm sorry to all offended and to those who read my post.

It's almost Christmas...we shouldn't be arguing. Happy holidays to you all. Have a safe and prosperous New Year.

Throb, you are doing a very good job. You should try to solve things by being a little more organized in your interactions. One of the most important things to get out of a user, especially a new one, is what version he has. There are now four versions of deluxe 61x, 638, 640, 641. You know the implications of each, but many don't.

If you are dealing with a crash, try and get the poster to lift the first 20 lines of his latest .txt file from Exception Reports and post them. A lot is revealed here including the windows version, and his game version as well as his memory size.

Sure is hard to shoot in the dark, eh?

Oops. These old eyes are playing tricks on me. I was probably wearing the wrong glasses (I have three pair).
