Game not loading after install

I recently updated my computer as I needed a upgrade. After setting up the computer I installed SimCity 4 Deluxe. The set up went smooth and after it was finished setting up the game screen appeas. After several seconds it disappears and epic fail. I have tried to reinstall the game twice already but that did not work. I have downloaded the newest version of directx as I thought that was the problem. I would think with a newer computer this would not be such a hard thing to complete. Any ideas how to get my SimCity 4 to load? Thanks

Here is my computer specs: Intel I5-3450 CPU@ 3.1GHz, 8192MB Ram, AMD Radeon HD 7450. Its not the best set up but as occasional gamer this should be fine. Also the operating system is Windows 8 (64 bit). Hope this helps

Don't double post! Just use the "edit" button to put those details rather than double posting after 30 minutes! Anyway, try to set the game to Windows XP Compatibility Mode which is done by right click SimCity 4 shortcut and select "Properties". Go to "Compatibility", tick "Run this program in compatibility mode" and select Windows XP SP3 or SP2 Compatibility Mode on the drop down tooltip. Click Apply and try.

    Hope this helps! ;)

I tried to use the compatibility mode but that does not seem to work. Thanks though. Any other ideas?

Remember with the minimum requirements. Use only the type of DirectX that recommended, and also remember to add the command line at the end of the shortcut.

Nonny Moose already explain about the command line in this (The last post/post #7 explain about the command line)

Do not use the app to run the game

Run the game of the icon on the desktop

Most of the 32 bit software require to be launch from a icon

As you have run the compatibility mode over the software you may of made a few more problem for yourself

I get the impression from some of the posts that the XP compatibility mode is removed from Windows 8. Is this true?

You need DirectX 9.0c to run the game, and it lives quite happily with later versions present.

And yes, you probably have to fix your command line to reflect your new machine.

At this point I do not know how to get this game to work on my pc. Since I have directx 11, I thought maybe if I download directx 9c it should work. Well a screen pops up and says I must be running Windows 98/Millenium Ed./2000/XP to install directx 9c. I tried to change the command line and after trying to start the game it CTD, epic fail once again. I am starting to think that its not the game as I could play it on my old computer setup with windows 7. I know my old computer had 2 cores and the newer one has 4 this may be the issue. I have read on sc4devotion that there are multiple people who have installed the game with windows 8. I have run out of ideas and have tried multiple ways to get the game to work but it just will not load. It seems the optical drive reads the game but just will not play it. So maybe its the drive who knows. As I have been playing SimCity 4 for the past several years its hard to believe that I am throwing in the towel. Its hard for me to say that, but I enjoyed watching this game evolve. My only other option is return my computer and try a new set up with windows 7.

Well, this game, supposedly, only for one-core computers and not for multiple-cores computers. However, command line '-CPUcount:1' already fix that problem. And about the compatibility of the game, it is compatible with Linux, Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and WIndows 8 (Though until now, I don't know anything about this new version, but from the testimony of some players, no problem happened). And two questions, when the game crashed ? During the intro, or just right after the intro ? And do you have some files in your plugin ? If yes, make sure if there are no missing dependencies and conflicting mods.

After changing the command line to -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -d:software -f -CPUcount:1 -audio:on and setting my compatibility to windows xp (service pack 2) it works. It seems like a lot of people here on simtropolis and other forums are having difficulty loading the game. There should be a thread dedicated to this problem, if there is one great. Thanks again everyone and happy holidays.

I am flattered that you lifted my command line but you don't need the -audio:on parameter if your sound system is working OK.
