Does anyone have any experience with this scrolling issue

My game ran wonderful untill last night. Now whenever I scroll up (Right-mouse-button) it doesn't work properly anymore. It looks like this

sc4.png

I can fix it by changing the orientation. But it's really annoying as I'm sure you can imagine. Does anyone have any experience with this issue?

I have the steam version of SC4, run it windowed (auto) with software rendering. I do have some mods, some of which I installed quite recently, the problem is I don't know which files exactly :(

Hope someone has some suggestions for me.

Anyways, thanks for looking!

Can you use the hardware rendering ? As I know, hardware rendering is better than software rendering if you can use it.

I have the same problem and I have no idea where to start looking either. When I first start SC4 it seems like the problem was fixed however after playing for about 10 min. then the problem returns.

First of all, rapid scrolling isn't in. This old program cannot keep up. Try taking it a little slower.

Another trick to move quickly across the map if the place you want is on screen is to right-click the spot you want front and centre.

Failing that, you can click on the micro-display in the GUI (lower left) to arrive quickly at a new point. This also works on the mini-displays that show things like pollution, traffic, etc. Just click the area you want to get to.

Also, check your GPUs control panel. Make sure all the 3D effects are set to 'application selected' or equivalent. The game was written before cards with even anti-aliasing were available.

If you zoom with the mouse wheel, remember that it takes only five clicks to go from level 1 to 6 and that's all there are. If you just roll the wheel you are just overloading the input queue and most of the clicks will be ignored. For zooming try the number keys 1-6.

I wonder if this is related to your graphics driver? Does it happen when you don't run it windowed? It looks like the image isn't repainting fast enough.

I use the right-mouse button to rapidly scroll all the time, and it works just fine, so I'm not sure it's related to the game or mods.

I've been running this game very good for the last couple of weeks, no problems whatsoever. So I really think it got messed up by one of the mods/lots I installed. I will try and figure it out now

I have tried hardware rendering and full screen, both work smooth except for this option.

    Thanks for all the input!

    p.s. I run the game in steam with this extension: -w -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -intro:off -CPUCount:1

Should be fine. The only custom stuff that could affect this is a terrain mod of some kind, or maybe a slope mod. Can't imagine an individual lot making much of a difference in the rendering.

Heck, I don't have this problem, and I probably have double the overhead of anyone because I am on Linux using the Windows Executive layer (wine). What happens if you use edge-scrolling?

    I've had this problem before.

When the game's in Windowed Mode, it doesn't lock the window size, so you can actually resize the window. It will appear to work fine until you move the camera, when this will happen.

Since you're running windowed, I'm betting that you've accidentally resized the window.

Since I don't run windowed mode, I never see this. But it seems like a reasonable explanation. Why not run full screen? You can still switch away with ALT+TAB as long as you don't do it during a save.

Zooming can be done to a specific level using the numeric keys 1 to 6. The higher the value, the closer the view. There are only six, and the game does not have infinite zoom.
