    Hi guys, I am having problems with simcity 4 and my new radeon 7850 graphics card. Basically, when I scroll around the city (either using the scroll wheel or moving the cursor to the edge of the screen) the screen will turn a tinted yellow and props and shadows will disappear. I have the steam version of the game so its on the latest patch.

    This issue is solved by turning software mode ON, however this is less than ideal as I get low FPS when I scroll around even on a blank city tile and even then graphics settings are set to a minimum.

    Edit: I should mention that I have no plug ins installed, and my graphics drivers are updated to the latest version.

    First, go into your catalyst panel and set all the 3D options to "application selected" or words to that effect. On mine it means that they are all unchecked. The game doesn't recognize nor tolerate any of this stuff, except by careful experimentation.

    Next, this game was written in 2000 and the last time it was touched by a developer was in 2003. We have agreed with EA to not muss with the .exe, so beyond suggesting that this legacy game needs TLC, we are at a loss to do anything about modern hardware.

    And finally, relax and enjoy the best city simulator you'll ever see. It is a leisure time pursuit, so just take it a bit slower and don't expect technical marvels from a game that is on the order of a decade old. Take it out of Cheetah mode, if that's the way you run, and be a little more Irish in your attitude. There's always more time to play, and I think I'll have another Guinness, please. Only Boston Irish are in a hurry, don't y'know. {I'm funnin' with you, so don't get upset.}

    Add the line:

    property useVertexBuffers false

    To the "Standard Hardware" section of your GraphicsRules.sgr file (It's a plain TXT with a different extension, just open it with Notepad).

    That should improve performance and may fix some of the issues you're experiencing.

    If it's only just started happening, then send off an error report to AMD, they may fix it. Otherwise, there is an Anti Aliasing mode on the HD6900s and HD7000s which can fix a lot of issues, the name of which escapes me at the moment.

    Also, turn shadows down to the lowest setting, they are far more taxing on hardware than they should be.

    I used to have the Radeon 9200 SE, when I scrolled around it didn't turn yellow but the shadows did turn off. I read that it was just what happened with that card and was normal.
