don't try to decipher confusing instructions or screenshots.

Interesting. You must have got your game from Origin because the usual structure is:

"C:/Program Files/Maxis/SimCity 4 Deluxe/Apps/SimCity 4.exe"

Also, I think you left the space out before the hyphen in the option. The command shortcut should read:

"C:/Program Files/Maxis/SimCity 4 Deluxe/Apps/SimCity 4.exe" -CPUcount:1

note the space after the final quote mark. The word ' Deluxe' is optional and won't be present if the game is expanded using the Rush Hour package.

I have only seen the structure you have once, in this video. Most users won't have it, especially if they got the game from Steam or out of the box. If you are going to do this kind of thing, I suggest you need to cover the ground more thoroughly.

Maybe now you can understand that when I talk about this I use ellipses in the pathname. E.g.

"C:\Program Files ... \SimCity 4 ...\Apps\SimCity4.exe

One of the really bad things that has happened with Steam and Origin is that they have forgotten that some things that were published in the past are dependent on the old structure. One is not always free to structure things they way you please.

By the way, it is not necessary to have the C:\Program Files (x86) directory at all, at the moment. This is a pipe dream of Microsoft's.

All in all, a pretty good attempt. I don't know what all the preliminary stuff was about, but it seems like going all around Robin Hood's barn when all you had to do was open the shortcut on the desktop. (Don't have one? Strange, it is part of the install.)

Origin is Maxis, mine is Gamestop through Impulse and i'm sure i had the shortcut at install but sometimes things get deleted or if you do master reboots and completely erase your hard drive like i do it helps to know the exact steps. and i'm pretty sure i addressed the space and the end of the target line @ 2:08 and @ 2:30

i could do vids for Origin and out of the box but i'm pretty sure if they are playing the game they know their file path structure or at least they should when they installed it. not buying it from steam, that's only for my skyrim and it's not about the file path but where to put the command line which i why i didn't focus too much on the file path other than that the command line needs to be after the .exe and spaced.

And I got my current copy from GamersGate. Fortunately it looks the way I described it. The other problem, of course, is you only cover Windows. What about MAC users, and I happen to be on Linux. The file systems are different. Linux doesn't even have "short cuts". It does have an equivalent and it looks like this: starting%20sc4%20from%20Linux%20shortcut.jpg and is called (obviously) a launcher.

The desktop icon is in the upper left corner, and this is what normally shows.

The command takes you to a script, which looks like this:

    #!/bin/bash

    date

    env WINEPREFIX="/home/john/.wine" \

    wine "C:/Program Files/Maxis/SimCity 4 Deluxe/Apps/SimCity 4.exe" \

    -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32 -d:software\

    -f -CPUcount:1 &>~/sc4.log

    date

Which, of course, would confuse the daylights out of most Windows users. You see, this script takes a minimum of two lines of shell code to start the program. The backslashes put the command starting at 'env' all on one line. The date commands allow me to time the interval the game has stayed up, and the ~/sc4.log file contains the wine console output in case I have a crash in the wine layer. I've been using various wine releases and sometimes run with a beta.

I've no idea what a desktop launch vehicle looks like for a MAC. Since OS/X is similar to Linux, about the same I expect.

It was a tutorial by a Windows user for a Windows user. He does not use any Debian-Like or Red Hat Enterprise-Like Linux distro or OSX, so it's a moot point.

haven't touched linux since the 90's and since i don't own a mac and never will it's kinda moot. and most players have PC's vs. mac but i'm not going to get into an apples and oranges debate. if you have a mac and linux and the proper screencap software you can make your own video and make an addendum.

Well, keep on truckin'. You should make sure the tutorial is marked Windows 7 only.
